Physician, Nuclear Medicine and Molecular ImagingPosition titlePhysician, Nuclear Medicine and Molecular ImagingDescriptionThe Department of Medicine and the Division of Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Imaging (NMMI) at the University of Ottawa and The Ottawa Hospital is looking for 2 full-time Attending Physicians (start dates in 2026 and 2027).The Division has 8 part time and full-time members who are all Nuclear Medicine specialists. We work closely with more than 20 medical radiation technologists, their Manager, a radiochemists and a dedicated Medical Physicist.The Division is a moderate to large sized practice that sees a yearly volume of 9000 general nuclear medicine studies on 10 SPECT cameras, 4000 studies on 1 PET/CT camera, and 7000 bone densitometry studies on 2 DEXA machines. We treat more than 200 new therapy patients per year.The Ottawa Hospital is a 1150 bed tertiary-care hospital serving Eastern Ontario and Western Quebec at four inpatient sites (Civic, General, Heart Institute, and the Rehabilitation Centre) and one ambulatory centre (Riverside). There are approximately 50,000 inpatient admissions, 160,000 emergency visits and over one million outpatient visits annually.Ground-breaking medical research is conducted through The Ottawa Hospital Research Institute (OHRI) and the University of Ottawa Heart Institute. We rank 5th in Canada for competitive, peer-reviewed grants from the prestigious Canadian Institutes of Health Research. Over 2,300 researchers are publishing more than 2,200 studies yearly, with hundreds being high-impact publications (top 10% or citations).The Department of Medicine is a research-intensive Department. Members currently hold 25 University Research Chairs. The Department receives approximately $60 million per year in external research funding and members publish approximately 1200 peer-reviewed publications annually.The Faculty of Medicine is a nationally recognized leader, ranked among Canada’s top-tier medical faculties. Ottawa boasts numerous cultural activities as well as readily accessible sporting and natural resources, making it an ideal family and healthy living environment.ResponsibilitiesSuccessful candidates will be expected to participate in a variety of clinical duties as well as education and academic opportunities and initiatives at the University of Ottawa. This position works under the general direction of the Division Head of NMMI, Department of Medicine at the Ottawa Hospital.Clinical responsibilities are comprised of an average of 3-4 clinic days per week, including rotating coverage of general and cardiac studies performed at the General Campus, general studies at the Civic campus, BMDs from the Riverside, PET, and consultation clinic for therapies. Average weekend calls will number 8-9 per year, including 1-2 long weekends or STAT holidays. Additional clinical duties will include, but may not be limited to, representation at various tumour boards.Division members are expected to attend and/or present at Division interesting case/hot seat rounds, M&M rounds, journal clubs, City-Wide Grand Rounds, in-training examinations, and academic half-day lectures. Additionally, the candidate will be expected to provide teaching and mentorship to House staff, which includes Nuclear Medicine and Radiology residents and fellows, off-service subspecialty residents, and medical students.The candidate will be expected to participate in or conduct research and collaborate in multicenter trials that further Division goals.QualificationsBroad competency with the full breadth of Nuclear Medicine imaging is required. This includes, but is not limited to, PET/CT for oncology and cardiovascular indications and multimodality nuclear cardiology. Comfort managing cardiac stress testing is a must. Skill in cross-sectional hybrid SPECT/CT and PET/CT is also expected. Recent experience with various radioisotope therapies must include Lu-177 Dotatate PRRT, Ra-223, I-131, and Lu-177 PSMA.The successful candidates must hold an MD degree; be a member of, or be eligible to be a member of, the Canadian Medical Protective Association; have, or be eligible for certification in Nuclear Medicine by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, and have, or be eligible for, licensure in Ontario. Successful Certification Board of Nuclear Cardiology examination and current ACLS training is expected. The successful candidate will be eligible to hold an academic appointment at the rank of an Assistant Professor or higher at the University of Ottawa. Academic rank will be commensurate with the candidate’s qualifications and experience.The University of Ottawa and The Ottawa Hospital are bilingual institutions and therefore in the case of potentially successful candidates of equal ability, a bilingual (French/English) candidate is preferred.Job BenefitsThe income for this position is derived from a variety of sources including but not limited to clinical billings (fee-for-service), salary support (AFP) as well as honorariums/stipends.
