Posting Summary
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey (the University) is seeking an Assistant Vice President, Title IX (AVP - TIX). The AVP - TIX will be responsible for coordinating University-wide resources, programs and activities relating to compliance with Title IX and all other sex- and gender-based laws and regulations, including those relating to issues of sexual harassment and other forms of sexual misconduct, and will be the central point of contact within the University for such issues. Additionally, the AVP - TIX will oversee the campus-level functions that handle investigations relating to alleged student conduct violations of Title IX and related laws, regulations, and University policies.
Key Duties
1. Serve as a key leader in the University's efforts to build and strengthen a caring culture:
- Maintain a fluent and continuously updated understanding of all laws, regulations, policies, and procedures prohibiting sexual harassment and other forms of sexual misconduct.
- Support the mission of the University by leading the effort to ensure institutional compliance with these laws.
- Provide oversight over the institution's Title IX program and ensure consistent Title IX compliance.
- Monitor Rutgers' Title IX program for barriers to reporting information about conduct that may constitute sex discrimination under Title IX.
2. Provide centralized oversight of Chancellor-Led Unit (CLU)-level Title IX offices:
- Provide oversight and guidance to the University's unit-level Title IX Coordinators.
- Establish consistent practices across all CLUs for functions handled by unit-level Title IX Coordinators.
- Ensure the use of a unified, enterprise-level case management system.
3. Provide Guidance and Reporting to University Leadership:
- Report to the University's senior leadership on a regular basis regarding Title IX compliance.
- Provide strategic leadership and guidance to ensure that the University complies with all relevant legal requirements.
4. Foster and Engage in Cross-Functional Collaboration:
- Work closely with the University's Office of General Counsel and other relevant offices to ensure that University-wide policies remain consistent with applicable legal requirements.
- Collaborate to develop resources for addressing unprofessional conduct in the workplace.
Qualifications
Minimum Education and Experience:
- Bachelor's Degree in higher education administration, human resources, public administration, law, or a related field; or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
- Eight (8) years of progressive experience in a compliance, legal, or human resources role, or a related field.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Advanced knowledge of Title IX and related laws and regulations.
- Experience within an institution of higher education or as a government regulator.
- Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
Preferred Qualifications:
- JD; Master's Degree in a related field.
- 10 years of higher education experience.
Physical Demands and Work Environment:
- Must be able to sit for extended periods of time and use a computer.
