DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:

- Develop compelling and engaging content for various platforms including emails, newsletters, public reports and fundraising materials.
- Transform interviews and stories from clients, volunteers and staff into captivating narratives that highlight The Mustard Seed's impact.
- Adapt fundraising and marketing language to create copy that resonates with donors and supporters.
- Conduct interviews with clients, volunteers and staff to gather stories and insights.
- Research and stay updated on issues related to homelessness, mental health and community support to inform content creation.
- Craft stories that align with The Mustard Seed's mission and values, ensuring authenticity and emotional connection.
- Work closely with the marketing and communications team to align content with overall strategies and campaigns.
- Collaborate with other departments to gather necessary information and ensure an accurate representation of The Mustard Seed's programs and initiatives.
- Coordinate with graphic designers, photographers and agencies on record to enhance content with visual elements.
- Edit and proofread content to ensure clarity, accuracy and consistency.
- Maintain a high standard of quality in all written materials, adhering to The Mustard Seed's style guide and branding guidelines.
- Consistently work to improve content in digital and paper formats through internal and external research.
- Complete tasks promptly, utilizing pre-defined timelines agreed upon by the team.
- Required to abide by all Health & Safety protocols including completing a report for all incidents that occur and near misses.
- All other duties as may be assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:

- At least 2-3 years of professional writing experience, preferably in a non-profit, fundraising, or marketing environment.
- Bachelor's Degree in Communications, Journalism, English, Marketing, or a related field or equivalent.
- Proven experience creating compelling content for various platforms, including digital and print media.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Familiarity with content management systems (CMS) and email marketing platforms.
- Basic understanding of SEO principles and best practices.
- Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to prioritize tasks and projects.
- Strong research skills to gather information and stay updated on relevant topics.
- Ability to synthesize information from various sources to create informed and accurate content.
- Exceptional interpersonal skills communication skills and fluency in English (both written and oral).
- Must be a self-starter with the ability to work independently and a team player with a collaborative spirit.
- Creative mindset with the ability to generate new ideas and approaches to content creation.
- Ability to adapt writing style to different formats and audiences.
- Ability to juggle multiple projects while always remaining deadline-driven.
- Be approachable, flexible and available.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

- Sitting for long periods of time.
- Moderate physical effort is required to successfully accomplish the essential job (this may require meeting face-to-face with fundraisers and physically assisting in local events).
- This will be a remote position in The Mustard Seed downtown Calgary location.
- Local travel, on occasion, may be required within Calgary and the area through the surrounding community, Red Deer, Medicine Hat and Edmonton.
- This position requires the use of a company vehicle. Candidate must have and maintain a valid driver's licence and consent to a driver's abstract request.
- As The Mustard Seed is a Christian ministry, we require our employees to sign an agreement indicating that they will respect and not detract from our Statement of Faith.
- Employees are to be aware that many of our clients may experience difficulties or impairment at times, which could result in them uttering threats, discriminatory statements and other insults at your person. This may be in a raised voice, seeing unpredictable behaviour or the possibility of them becoming aggressive.
- Training on how to respond is provided, however, this is considered to be typical working conditions. Many of our clients are unaware of the impact of these comments or actions.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

- An Employment Background Check is required for all positions at The Mustard Seed.
- As The Mustard Seed is a Christian ministry, we require our employees to agree to respect and not detract from The Mustard Seed's Employment Values during their employment at The Mustard Seed.
- Must have legal authorization to work in Canada on a full-time basis for anyone other than current employer.
