Senior Quality Engineer

The Senior Quality Engineer, under general direction, is responsible for performing complex inspections and setting quality standards for both in-process and finished products and materials. Primarily accountable for working with quality inspection supervisors to train and oversee inspectors in their use of control forms, procedures, and correcting quality problems. In addition, develop methods for testing, sampling, and training and evaluating production while recommending improvements. This position may provide technical leadership and assist in training less skilled engineers.

Performance Expectations

1. Maintain effective communication with internal and external customers to ensure all quality requirements are met.
2. Interpret regulatory quality documents in order to apply them to manufacturing and quality systems.
3. Be actively involved in quality planning (Control Plans, APQP, FMEA, PPAP, Gauging).
4. Identify gauging methods, quote, purchase, and implement related systems.
5. Participate in Customer Focus meetings.
6. Initiate and participate in 8D Problem solving meetings with customers, suppliers, or internally.
7. Review accuracy of process documentation and update as needed.
8. Write quality assurance reports describing manufacturing problems, corrective actions taken, and preventative measures needed.
9. Ability to make presentations to senior management during annual meetings.
10. Assess suitability of candidates for specific positions.
11. Read operating and quality assurance reports to understand technical and operational information about facilities, processes, and equipment.
12. Direct and coordinate project teams which include other engineers, technologists, clients, and contractors when designing, developing, and building products or facilities.
13. Attend formal professional development seminars and conferences as needed.

Credentials

1. Post-Secondary education in Engineering or related mechanical engineering discipline.
2. Minimum five years of previous automotive/manufacturing experience.
3. Experience with risk analysis and problem failure modes and effects analysis (FMEA) for automotive products.
4. Familiarity in writing and executing engineering test protocols.
5. Experience in drawing interpretations and geometric dimensional tolerancing.
6. Working knowledge in gauging methods, calibration, and gauge R and R's.
7. Ability to take precise measurements using specialized equipment and techniques.
8. Proficient with MS Office and CAD applications.
9. Familiar with material processes and TS16949 standards.
10. Experience with the use of statistical analysis software and computer-assisted design, manufacturing, and machining.
