Duties and Responsibilities
Reporting to the IT Manager, the IT Specialist is an integral part of a team supporting and implementing IT solutions for the School of Engineering. Responsibilities include: managing client computers for faculty, staff, research, and graduate; providing IT support and guidance to all members of the School; implementing and supporting automation and systems management tools; supporting computers and software for the undergraduate computer labs; providing operational support for audio/visual systems; and documenting and supporting custom software applications.
Requirements
- Post-Secondary education in Computer Science/Information Technology and 3 years' experience in desktop infrastructure and system administration
- Strong skills in supporting and troubleshooting Windows and Linux operating systems
- Excellent time management, troubleshooting and task prioritization skills
- Excellent communication skills demonstrated by previous experience with customer service
- Strong technical writing skills with experience creating technical documentation for diverse audiences
- Experience designing and building operating system images for deployment across multiple platforms
- Experience packaging and deploying software using systems management software
- Experience working with LDAP and Active Directory for user, computer, and group policy management
- Ability to create automation scripts with Bash, PowerShell, or other languages
- Ability to troubleshoot, diagnose and resolve audio/visual issues and coordinate A/V for major events
The following would be considered an asset:
- Linux or Windows certifications such as LPIC-1, RHCSA, MCSE, or equivalents
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a small team
- Experience working as part of a project team including defining scope, goals, and success criteria as well as organizing and following through on a planned project
- Experience performing incident management with an issue tracking system
- Knowledge of information security principles and best practices
