Department Overview

New Jersey's academic health center, Rutgers Biomedical and Health Sciences (RBHS) takes an integrated approach to educating students, providing clinical care, and conducting research, all with the goal of improving human health. Posting Summary

Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Physician Assistant for the department of Medicine at the Robert Wood Johnson Medical School. Under the direction and supervision of a Licensed Physician, provides health care services to patients.

Among the key duties of this position are the following:

- Examines patient, performs comprehensive physical examination, and compiles patient medical data, including health history and results of physical examination.
- Administers or orders diagnostic tests, such as x-ray, electrocardiogram, and laboratory tests, and interprets test results for deviations from normal.
- Performs therapeutic procedures such as injections, immunizations, suturing and wound care, and managing infection.
- Develops and implements patient management plans, records progress notes, and assists in provisions of continuity of care.
- Works with physicians to help triage and navigate patients safely and efficiently for their procedures.
- Will help physician follow up on results of tests such as pathology or radiology, and also communicate results with patients and family.
- May be needed to help see patients in hospital on inpatient service, or to help support inpatient advanced practice provider team.

This position requires a fully on-site work arrangement.

Minimum Education and Experience

- Graduated from a Physician Assistant Program approved by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP).

Certifications/Licenses

- Certification from the National Commission for Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA). New Jersey License from the State Board of Medical Examiners-Physician Advisory Committee. In the case of a new graduate, they may be considered under the condition that he/she successfully takes and passes the Certification from the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants and the New Jersey License examination from the State Board of Medical Examiners—Physician Assistant Advisory Committee on the first available date following his/her graduation.
- BLS is required.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

- Physical Demands: Standing, sitting, walking, talking and hearing. No special vision requirements. Lifting up to 25 lbs.
- Work Environment: Office environment with moderate noise.

Under Policy 100.3.1 Immunization Policy for Covered Individuals, if employment will commence during Flu Season, Rutgers University may require certain prospective employees to provide proof that they are vaccinated against Seasonal Influenza for the current Flu Season, unless the University has granted the individual a medical or religious exemption.
