Overview

A Postdoctoral Fellow/Research Associate position is available in the Vu Lab based in the Terry Fox Laboratory, BC Cancer, and the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences, University of British Columbia, working on a project investigating the role of RNA modifications and translation control in pathogenesis of leukemia.

The overarching goal of our laboratory is to understand the control of stem cells in development and diseases. Our research group focuses on uncovering novel mechanisms of post-transcriptional and translational regulation during normal and malignant hematopoiesis. The project involves the use of human and mouse models, primary patient samples of hematologic malignancies, and cutting-edge technologies. By using animal models and genomic approaches for identification of novel translational regulators in leukemia, the Vu lab investigates molecular mechanisms underpinning leukemogenesis and control of hematopoietic stem cells. The Vu lab is part of the Terry Fox Laboratory, BC Cancer, and the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences, UBC, and collaborates with major international institutions.

Qualifications

- PhD or MD/PhD degree (for Research Associate position: 3 years of postdoctoral experience).
- Solid knowledge and research experience in molecular and cell biology; stem cell/cancer biology.
- Experience with animal models; hematology and leukemia are assets.
- Strong background in RNA biology and bioinformatics is highly desirable.
- Ability to work independently to conceive, initiate, organize and manage projects; supervise undergraduate/graduate students.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills; ability to work in a team environment.

Responsibilities and expectations

The successful candidate will contribute to ongoing projects focusing on post-transcriptional and translational regulation in leukemia, using human and mouse models and genomic approaches.

Salary

Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
