Job Summary
We are seeking committed and driven Permanent Full Time Associate Physicians to support the provision of continuous care in a team-based environment working collaboratively with the MRP, Residents, Fellows, medical students, nursing, and allied health care providers to care for acute medical patients admitted under Interventional Radiology.
Under the supervision of the Most Responsible Provider (MRP), the Associate Physician (AP), Interventional Radiology is accountable to the respective AP program lead(s) for the overall provision of quality of care and professional development.
Royal Columbian Hospital is a provincial referral hospital (stroke/cardiac/trauma/neurosurgery) located in New Westminster, BC, with 439 acute beds, with nearly 80,000 visits annually. Services include 24/7 emergency, outpatient, ambulatory care, and a range of inpatient services which are supported by a range of community services. The Royal Columbian Hospital Redevelopment Project is well under way and is a multi-year, multi-phase project to increase the hospital's capacity, beds, and services by about 50 percent.

Detailed Overview
Supporting the Vision, Values, Purpose and Commitments of Fraser Health including service delivery that is centered around patients/clients/residents and families: The Associate Physician (AP) - Interventional Radiology will perform duties within the scope of an Associate Physician clinical duties, responsibilities, and serves as a physician extender to provide care to inpatients at RCH under the Interventional Radiology Service/Program. The AP works under the supervision of the Most Responsible Provider (MRP) who is the Interventional Radiology attending on a day-to-day basis and is accountable to the respective AP program lead(s) for the overall provision of quality of care and professional development.
The AP supports the provision of continuous care in a team-based environment working collaboratively with the MRP, Residents, Fellows, medical students, nursing, and allied health care providers to care for acute medical patients admitted under Interventional Radiology.
Responsibilities
1. Participates in patient rounds under the supervision of the Interventional Radiology attending along with other care team members.
2. Assesses the day-to-day care of patients, including writing medical orders, consultations with other services, and responding to changing patient conditions, in consultation with the attending staff.
3. Performs and documents admission history and physical examinations, progress notes, discharge summaries, and medication reconciliation as per CPSBC and organizational standards, policies, and guidelines.
4. Develops treatment plans in response to changing patient condition, where appropriate and in consultation with the Attending staff.
5. Follows through on investigations and in consultation with the Attending staff.
6. Communicates with and responds in a timely manner to calls from the nursing staff and other care team members.
7. Communicates with patients, family members, other consulting services, and trainees concerning patient care plans as appropriate.
8. Performs the procedures within the scope of their demonstrated competence. The AP will not proceed until full training/competence is established and the appropriate sign-off by the Supervising Physician, Division/Department head or delegate is completed. Procedures may include the following:
• Drainage catheter insertions and management.
• Venous access and renal dialysis procedures.
• Angiograms/venograms, angioplasty, stenting, thrombolysis/thrombectomy and embolization.
• Interventional oncology.
• Image guided biopsies and injections.
9. Participates in professional development activities (a minimum of 50 hours per year, 25 hours of which must be accredited training recognized by the Royal College of Physician and Surgeons' Maintenance of Certification Program for healthcare professionals).
10. Complies with the continuing professional development reporting requirements.
11. Attends clinical rounds, morbidity and mortality rounds, and other educational and research sessions.
12. Participates in quality improvement projects relating to their patient or program.
13. May provide basic teaching and basic supervision for trainees when appropriate.
Qualifications
Medical degree from a school listed in the World Directory of Medical Schools.
Minimum of two (2) years of accredited postgraduate training as a medical or surgical specialist, verified by the College of Physicians and Surgeons of BC (CPSBC). Successful completion of Part 1 of the Medical Council of Canada Qualifying Examination (MCCQE) or Steps 1 through 3 of the United States Medical Licensing Examinations (USMLEs). Must meet the CPSBC's English language proficiency requirements.
Eligible for registration with the CPSBC in the Associate Physician class, under sponsorship by Fraser Health Authority.
Valid Canadian Citizenship, be a permanent resident or be legally able to live and work in British Columbia.

- Ability to recognize medical instability and address initial priorities of ACLS protocols.
- Ability to judge situations where discussion and reporting to senior and most responsible physicians is appropriate.
- Computer and written communication skills including order entry, clinical documentation, and ability to review relevant diagnostic information and health history.
- Ability and comfort in working in a team-based environment.
- Ability to carry out professional duties in the face of multiple, competing demands.
- Demonstrates ability to communicate effectively and build relationships with other health professionals and disciplines and holds excellent interpersonal skills.
