Community Advocacy Support / Jordan's Principle Worker

Peter Ballantyne Cree Nation, "Witatoskimihtotan Mitho-Pimatisiwin – Let's Work Together For a Good Life" Community Advocacy Services is currently seeking a Community Advocacy Support / Jordan Principles Worker (1 position) for the WMP Community Advocacy Program. This position will serve the communities of Kiskaciwan and PA Urban, this position will be based out of Prince Albert.
Reporting to the Community Advocacy Supervisor, the Support Worker is responsible for providing Community Advocacy Services to support children, youth, and families who are at risk of or involved with CFS. Community Advocacy functions as a member of Interagency services supporting children, youth, and families. Interagency comprises of local programs such as PBCN Health, Education, Social and ICFS, and other service providers in the communities.
The Community Advocacy Support / Jordan's Principle Worker is a permanent full-time position. This position will serve the communities of Kiskaciwan and PA Urban.
PBCN is willing to train the successful candidate for this position, the person selected will be supported by the Community Advocacy Supervisor and the Director of Community Advocacy.
Community Advocacy Support / Jordan's Principle Worker
The Community Advocacy Support / Jordan Principle Worker is supervised by the Community Advocacy Supervisor (CAS). The Community Advocacy Support / Jordan Principle Worker is responsible for providing advocacy support services for children, youth, and families.
- Under the guidance of the Chief and Council assert and adhere to the Woodland Cree culture, language, values and way of life in service delivery.
- Uphold and strengthen the rights of PBCN in provincial, territorial, and federal child and family services laws.
- Support children, youth, and families to meaningfully exercise their rights under provincial, territorial, and federal child and family services laws.
- Promote substantive equality for children and youth.
- Preserve, promote and support family unity.
- Connect PBCN children, youth, and families with the lands, languages, cultures, practices, customs, traditions, ceremonies, and knowledge of their community.
- Engage with individuals in a way that empowers them to move towards a more holistic lifestyle.
- Support children, youth and families in matters involving CFS; which includes supporting the Community Advocacy Supervisor with administrative and court proceedings.
- Complete a child and family advocacy plan.
- Identify supports for children and families, make referrals where appropriate.
- Assist parents and caregivers with Jordan's Principle applications.
- Assist youth with Post Majority Care applications.
- Ensure that parental - caregiver consent forms, and waiver forms are completed.
- Support Community children, youth and families in matters involving CFS.
- Assist in developing the WMP Community Advocacy Program.
- Deliver advocacy services, Jordan's Principle and post majority care services.
- Complete intake, maintain records, case files, contact notes, case conferences when assisting children and families. Protect and secure all records and files, removing files from the office requires written approval by the Director of Community Advocacy.
- Establish working relationships with community-based service providers and authorities; be resourceful and when required make referrals to appropriate service providers, local community services, other external agencies.
- Assist in hosting community engagement and information meetings.
- As required, attend Community Advisory Committee meetings to provide a report.
- Complete month end reports.
Qualifications
- Social Work Degree, Social Services Diploma, other social services fields of study (is preferred). Or two (2) years of direct experience in a community services setting, on the job training will be provided to the candidate.
- Knowledge of all Peter Ballantyne Cree Nation community programs and services and other government agencies.
- Respect for and understand the Woodland Cree culture, traditions, values and language.
- Knowledge of the Canadian Human Rights Tribunal decisions, Jordan's Principle and Post Majority Care.
- Knowledge of the Child, Youth and Family Services Act, Education Act and Health Services Act, and other legislations and policy that may affect PBCN children and families.
- Knowledge of service delivery with a child centered and community approach, including holistic services, customs, and traditions.
- Preferred: Social Services Diploma, other social services field of study.
- Must provide a clear Police Records Check – Vulnerable Sector Check.
- Must provide a clear Child Welfare Check.
- Must provide a Class 5 Saskatchewan Driver's License and Clear Drivers Abstract.
- Eligible to be a registered member of the Saskatchewan Association of Social Workers.
