Under the direction of the Social Work Lead, the Social Worker is responsible for providing therapeutic support, including counselling and intervention strategies to address social emotional needs that adversely affect the academic and social development of students. They provide individual and group therapy to students, parenting and resource navigation support to parents, and consultation support and psychoeducation to parents and school staff. As a member of a multidisciplinary team, the Social Worker offers consultation and guidance to families and school staff, liaises with professionals of various sectors in the community, working closely with school administrators and other educators providing consultation, psychosocial assessments and therapy to students and caregivers. The Social Worker also prepares case notes and reports in accordance with regulatory college standards. Job Description: Screen and evaluate referrals to determine level of intervention and ensure appropriate fit to services available or triage to community services if necessary Complete psychosocial assessments and engage in goal setting with students, sometimes in consultation and collaboration with parents and school staff Develop intervention, treatment and safety plans and provide therapy to address treatment needs Conduct risk assessments and provide crisis intervention to students, families and education staff in response to tragic events or crisis situations Support parents by providing outreach, psychoeducation, parenting strategies and referrals to community supports As designated attendance counsellors for the school board, adhere to Ministry requirements around student attendance and provide timely outreach to students and families and assess barriers to attendance Create individual return to school plans and provide consultation to administrators and teachers around Ministry requirements in addressing attendance Gather and record statistical information regarding referrals and interventions and complete documentation requirements according to regulatory college standards, including case notes and reports Provide consultation to administrators on how to address social and emotional needs of individuals or groups of students Liaise with community resources when making referrals, collaborating in treatment plans and when managing transitions in and out of treatment settings from school Collaborate with school and hospital staff to address mental health crisis in schools (i.e. suicide and homicide risk) Advocate for supports to address the needs of vulnerable students and families and improve their well-being Participate on Board and community committees to provide a social work lens in guiding decision making and policy development. Develop and deliver professional development and psychoeducation to educators, caregivers and students Collaborate with schools to identify and assess psychosocial needs specific to individual schools Participate in meetings, staff development and training as required Required Qualifications: Master of Social Work Degree Registered member of the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers 5 years of experience in providing therapeutic services, crisis intervention, working with children and families Strong clinical skills and knowledge of a variety of therapeutic approaches Sensitivity and understanding of various types of diversity, ensuring that counselling practices are inclusive and respectful of all students and their families Knowledge of community mental health services Proven commitment to continuous professional learning and staying current with latest research Ability to work independently and respond to crises with minimal supervision Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to triage and manage in a fast-paced environment Strong organizational, interpersonal and communication skills Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team A valid Ontario driver’s license and the use of a personal vehicle In addition, the following will be considered an asset: Trained in ASIST (or suicide risk assessment and treatment) Ability to create and deliver professional learning to large groups Experience with a variety of software (including but not limited to Google Suite) Familiarity with the education environment The anticipated start date of this temporary full time (1.0 FTE ) position is January 5, 2026 with an anticipated end date of July 10, 2026, with the possibility of extension.
