The Opportunity

The Emergency Services Department is currently seeking a qualified and knowledgeable individual to join the Training Department in the position of Training Officer I.

Reporting to the Chief Training Officer, this position is responsible for the coordination and delivery of emergency services training activities of the fire department. It will research, develop and deliver specialized technical knowledge through instruction, and evaluate individual demonstration and competency in fire suppression, rescue, emergency response and mitigation disciplines. It will deliver training courses and programs consistent with the accredited entity and the Accreditation and Certification Alberta NFPA Certification Program.

Qualifications

Candidates will be considered based on their qualifications and suitability.

1. Minimum five (5) years emergency response experience
2. Minimum one (1) year of job-related fire service training experience
3. PCP or ACP
4. NFPA 1001 Level 1 & 2
5. NFPA 1002 Chapter 4, 5, & 6
6. NFPA 1021 Level 1 Fire Officer
7. NFPA 1041 Level 1 Fire Service Instructor
8. NFPA 1072 Awareness & Operations
9. NFPA 1403 Live Fire Instructor (or equivalent)
10. NFPA 1521 Level 1 Safety Officer
11. ICS 100 & 200
12. Blue Card Command (or equivalent)
13. Experience with lesson plan development
14. Experience with Microsoft Office suite of products

Hours of Work

This position will follow the schedule of the Chief Training Officer, working eight (8) ten (10) hour days in a two-week period.

The department operates 24/7/365 days per year; consequently, after hours and on-call work may be required to support operations.

Compensation

$116,588.25 per annum. In addition, the City of St. Albert offers a generous and comprehensive benefit package.

Conditions of Employment

1. The successful applicant will be required to obtain a satisfactory police information check.
2. The successful candidate must provide proof of educational and professional credentials.
3. A valid Class 5 Driver's license and a personal vehicle for work use are required.
4. This position is represented by the Union IAFF 2130, and the terms and conditions of employment are governed by the collective agreement between the Union and The City of St. Albert.
