Position overview
This role requires a strategic engineering mindset, moving beyond pure coding to evaluate critical build-vs-buy decisions and select the right API management strategies to create a world-class developer experience. You will not only build this 'Data as a Product' platform - unlocking new revenue streams and pioneering our entry into the AI agent ecosystem - but you will also be its first consumer, crafting the initial AI agents that prove its power and potential. If you are a systems‑thinker driven to solve complex problems of scale and create elegant, lasting platforms, this is your opportunity.
Key Responsibilities
- Take a leading role in the end‑to‑end design, development, and deployment of Stay22's new, public‑facing API platform
- Utilize your deep knowledge of Python, Node.js and TypeScript to build highly scalable, secure, and well‑documented RESTful or GraphQL APIs
- Develop and deploy the first generation of Stay22 AI agents for third‑party marketplaces (e.g. OpenAI, GCP Agents), leveraging the API platform you help create
- Collaborate closely with the Data, Neuro, and Integrations teams to define data contracts and weave their services and data assets into a unified API product
- Work with the Forge (Platform) team to implement best practices for CI/CD, infrastructure as code, security, and observability for the API platform
- Define and champion API design standards, versioning strategies, and documentation to create a world‑class developer experience for both internal and external partners
- Define and implement testing strategies (unit, integration, and end‑to‑end tests)
- Set up and maintain automated testing pipelines to ensure code quality and reliability
- Implement robust authentication, rate‑limiting, monitoring, and alerting to ensure the platform is reliable and secure
- Champion observability and error handling (e.g. structured logging, error tracking via tools like Grafana)
- Mentor other developers and help establish a culture of technical excellence, simplicity, and long‑term ownership within the new Fabric team
- Contribute to hiring and onboarding new engineers into the team
Requirements
- B.S. or M.S. in Computer Science or equivalent experience
- 6-8+ years of experience in fullstack or backend development, with a strong emphasis on building scalable, public‑facing APIs and services
- Deep expertise in server‑side Python, JavaScript/TypeScript and Node.js, with a proven track record of delivering high‑quality, scalable web services
- Hands‑on experience with building and consuming APIs and working with cloud infrastructure (GCP preferred) is required
- Solid experience with databases like PostgreSQL and MongoDB
- Familiarity with platform engineering concepts, including containerization (Docker, Kubernetes) and Infrastructure as Code (Terraform), is a strong plus
- Experience or a strong interest in working with AI/LLM APIs and building applications for agent‑based ecosystems is a plus
- Proven experience in leading technical projects or mentoring other developers, with a focus on improving team skills and code quality
- Excellent communication skills and a collaborative approach to working with product managers and cross‑functional stakeholders to translate business needs into technical solutions
What to Expect from our Hiring Process
We know your time’s valuable, so here’s the quick rundown of what to expect.
- Screening call with our Talent Acquisition Partner (30-45 minutes)
- Whiteboarding session oriented on System Design (Miro) with the Engineering Team (60 minutes)
- Final interview with our CEO (30 minutes)
- Offer & onboarding
Please note that this process is subject to change at any point, based on additional requirements from the team.
