Jade Transport is in a period of growth offering the opportunity to be a part of new and exciting initiatives.
The opportunity is one that blends the structure of regular monthly reporting with the variety of analytical and strategic tasks as directed by management. The successful candidate would lead a team of 6 long-term staff with well defined and structured responsibilities, but also have a voice cross-functionally among mid-management and across the organization.
Specific Qualifications and Attributes
- CPA member in good standing. Jade Transport is proud to support a successful candidate ongoing CPD as approved by management.
- Character – An individual who can lead a cohesive team, navigate complex issues to do what is right, remain cool under pressure, and exercise good decision making.
- Implementation – The ability to implement new initiatives among departments and or company wide thoughtfully, accurately and effectively.
- Strong technical understanding of Microsoft Office and other technology platforms. A curious mindset toward leveraging technology to create efficiency and effectiveness.
- Strong technical accounting, and financial reporting skills that provide meaningful insights about what is important to the organization, its financial performance, and or good decision making. Understanding of corporate tax would be an asset, but can be developed over time too.
Key Responsibilities
- Day to day – Develop, empower and support the accounting team in their respective functions of AR (2), AP, Payroll, Senior Accountant and Administrator.
- Month end reporting – Oversee the preparation of the monthly financial statements, including review of key balance sheet accounts, analysis of income statement accounts, and cash flow.
- Year end – Prepare the year end backup for external accountants, and liaison with them throughout the review process to ensure a timely completion and close.
- Regulatory – Ensure that all provincial, federal, WCB, and any other regulatory filings are completed accurately and on-time. Prepare, in consultation with management, response to audits, reviews and or government inquiries.
- Related parties – Provide oversight to the accounting and reporting for multiple holding companies, and ad hoc support to two related party operating companies.
- Ad hoc – Conduct ad hoc analysis of various strategic objectives and or operational issues that provides a quantitative lens to qualitative considerations.
