Operating Room Technician

Position Overview

This is a part-time position where we require someone who can work Mondays and Fridays for a total of 15 hours per week; work hours are 7:30am to 4pm. We are offering competitive compensation.
As an Operating Room Technician (OR Tech), you'll play a critical role in supporting life-changing procedures while ensuring the highest standards of care. This is your chance to bring your skills to a unique and meaningful setting where your expertise truly matters.
Operating Room Technicians (OR Tech) assist surgeons, internal medicine specialists, and physicians with endoscopy, cystoscopy, and minor surgery procedures. Their work includes providing patient care during all aspects of the procedure, preparing for procedures, assisting with procedures, cleaning procedure rooms, and cleaning, disinfecting, and sterilizing equipment. OR Tech works under the direction of surgeons, internal medicine specialists, and physicians during procedures and acts as a part of the health care team.
Responsibilities
1. Assist surgeons, internal medicine specialists, and physicians before, during, and after endoscopy, cystoscopy, and minor surgery procedures.
2. Assist patients before, during, and after procedures according to best practices and clinic procedures.
3. Perform patient administration and charting according to clinic procedure.
4. Prepare for appropriate procedures in the endoscopy, cystoscopy, and minor procedure rooms.
5. Clean and disinfect procedure rooms in accordance with Canadian Safety Association (CSA) standards.
6. High-level disinfect or sterilize endoscopes and cystoscopes according to manufacturer instructions and CSA standards.
7. Sterilize all equipment according to manufacturer instructions and CSA standards.
8. Perform quality assurance tests on equipment in the medical device reprocessing department according to CSA standards.
9. Perform equipment maintenance in MDRD and procedure rooms according to manufacturer instructions and CSA standards.
10. Maintain professional competence in practice by participating in workshops and conferences to learn current best practices in procedures and techniques.
11. Follow the continuing competency program according to the provincial or territorial regulatory authority for LPN/RPNs.
12. Follow CSA standards for the storage of medical supplies.
13. Order medical equipment and supplies for the medical device reprocessing department (MDRD) and procedure rooms.
14. Ensure proper storage, maintenance, and security of medical supplies within MDRD and procedure rooms according to CSA standards.
15. Maintain stock of medical supplies within MDRD and procedure rooms.
16. Ensure that Work Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS) standards are followed when working in MDRD and procedure rooms.
17. Maintain records required for quality control and workload statistics.
18. Other associated tasks relevant to this occupational group.
Qualifications
All OR Techs must, as a minimum, have:
1. A Certificate of Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Provider or equivalent such as Cardio-pulmonary Resuscitation/Automated External Defibrillator (CPR/AED) Level C. Annual recertification is required.
2. A certificate from Medical Device Reprocessing Course with a minimum of 3 years of experience within the last 5 years in medical device reprocessing and endoscope reprocessing.
3. A minimum of 3 years of experience within the last 5 years working in endoscopy, cystoscopy, and minor procedure suites.
4. Reached Operational Function Point as an OR Technician.
Additional Requirements
You will be able to obtain a Government Security Clearance at the Reliability level.
