Key Responsibilities:- Guide participants with disabilities through safe and well-planned activities in group settings.
- Assist in adapting activities and making modifications to program plans as needed.
- Provide additional support in managing behavioral challenges to ensure the safety of participants with disabilities, other participants, and staff.
- Offer personal care for children/youth/adults with disabilities, including toileting, changing, and feeding when required.
- Respond to emergency situations, including performing minor first aid and/or arranging for medical assistance.
- Communicate frequently with parents/guardians and collaborate with other program staff to resolve issues or concerns.
- Collaborate with other program staff and supervisors to discuss program plans, ideas, areas of concern, and participant information.
- A high school student with some experience working with children, youth, and/or adults in recreational delivery settings, including those with special needs.
- Certifications such as Counsellor in Training Program, Inclusion Counsellor in Training, National Coaching Certification Program, or equivalent are desirable.
- The ability to participate in and assist participants in various recreational activities, including adapted activities, swimming, skating, and sports, and to assist with lifts and transfers if necessary.
- Good organizational and leadership skills, along with the ability to deal courteously and effectively with participants, other staff, parents/guardians, participant support teams, and the public.
- Current Standard First Aid & CPR-C certification is required, as well as Lifesaving Society's Safeguard certification, High Five (Principles of Healthy Child Development) certification, and Behavior Management Systems, Safe Management, or Crisis Prevention and Intervention certification.
- A Police Vulnerable Sector Check satisfactory to the Town is required for those 18 years and older, or the completion of the Declaration of Minors – Working with Vulnerable Individuals Self Declaration Form for those 17 years and younger.
