Lead Designer Job Description

We are seeking a skilled and experienced Lead Designer to lead a fast-paced team in a multi-disciplined environment. The successful candidate will contribute to and be responsible for the creation or revisions of 3D or 2D functional or detail/production models or drawings for ship, vessel, and boat design/fabrication.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Contribute to or be responsible for the creation or revisions of 3D or 2D functional or detail/production models or drawings for ship, vessel, and boat design/fabrication in the following disciplines:
  1. Hull and primary structural detail design and/or secondary structural steel outfitting detail design (hot work)
  2. Mechanical equipment and distributed systems outfit (pipe, HVAC, and/or electrical/cable) detail design (cold work)
  3. Joiner outfitting, general equipment, and interior space arrangements detail design
  4. Develop positive working relationships with all team members and stakeholders, facilitating clear and timely communication and exchange of information
Requirements:
  • High School Diploma with a minimum of 10 years of 3D modeling design or 2D drafting experience in marine environments in one or a combination of the three disciplines outlined above
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Reliability Status clearance (Canadian Citizenship is required)
  • Experience with commercial vessels or Coast Guard or Naval type vessels
  • Expertise with functional design transitioning to production design and/or experience with unit/block build strategy production design is an asset
  • Knowledge and experience with Ship design 3D modeling and 2D drafting tools such as ShipConstructor, AVEVA Marine/Tribon/PDMS, or others like NAPA, Foran, Cadmatic, Catia, and Smart3D
Preferred Qualifications:
  • College Diploma or higher education in Naval Architecture or Marine Engineering or similar marine technical field
  • Possessing Canadian Security Clearances (Reliability/Controlled Good or higher)
