Mission/Overview

The executive-level role that combines project management with high-stakes client engagement is most often called a Project Executive or a Client Partner. The following job description combines the strategic, operational, and client-facing responsibilities of this senior position.

The Executive Project Manager/Client Partner is a senior leader responsible for the strategic oversight and successful execution of complex, high-value programs and projects. This role serves as the primary relationship owner for key clients, acting as a trusted advisor to C-suite and executive-level stakeholders. The ideal candidate possesses a deep understanding of the client's business, expertly navigates large-scale initiatives, and drives strategic growth for both the client and the company.

What you'll be doing:

Strategic leadership and planning

- Provide high-level strategic direction for a portfolio of projects, ensuring alignment with overall business objectives and long-term client goals.

- Collaborate with senior management and internal teams to define project scope, strategy, and business objectives from the earliest stages of ideation.

- Identify opportunities for new business development and service expansion within existing client accounts.

- Contribute to the evolution of the company's project management methodology, ensuring best practices are standardized and continuously improved.

Client and stakeholder management

- Build and nurture strong, executive-level relationships with client stakeholders, acting as the ultimate point of escalation for all project-related matters.

- Anticipate client needs and expectations, and proactively develop solutions that deliver exceptional value beyond the terms of a contract.

- Lead contract negotiations and ensure alignment between proposed work, budget, and deliverables.

- Provide high-level transparency to client executives regarding project successes, risks, value-adds, and constraints.

Program and project oversight

- Lead and mentor a team of senior project managers and other project staff, providing guidance and support to ensure optimal performance.

- Oversee the performance of multiple concurrent projects, monitoring progress against key metrics such as scope, budget, and schedule.

- Direct the management of project budgets, tracking expenses, and authorizing spending plans to ensure profitability.

- Identify, assess, and manage project risks and issues, developing and executing effective mitigation strategies.

Operational excellence

- Ensure project deliverables meet or exceed high-quality standards and adhere to defined best practices.

- Foster a culture of accountability and excellence within project teams.

- Oversee project closure, including formal client acceptance and documentation, to ensure a smooth transition and capture lessons learned.

What You'll Need:

- Education: Bachelor's degree in Business, Engineering, or a related field. An MBA or PMP certification is preferred.

- Experience: 10+ years of progressive experience in project management, with a proven track record of successfully managing complex, large-scale programs and initiatives.

- Leadership: Demonstrated leadership in motivating and guiding cross-functional teams, with superb communication and interpersonal skills.

- Business Acumen: A deep understanding of industry trends and the ability to align project strategies with high-level business objectives.

- Technical Proficiency: Fluency with project management and CRM software.
