Our Solid Waste Services Department is seeking a Weigh Scale System Specialist who will maintain, reconcile and update database records for all scale house transactions to ensure accuracy for customer invoicing. Work with internal and external staff to ensure data is accurate and procedures are followed at sites. You will also assist customers with inquiries via phone or email, providing timely and professional responses.
You are: A self-starting individual with good investigation and analytical skills and experience. Highly motivated and able to work independently and in a team environment.
This role:
- Analyzes waste flow data and revenues to identify trends; tracks, compiles and verifies data; maintains and checks for data accuracy; uses various applications software to create and run standard and ad hoc reports from downloaded database information; performs data analysis to prepare narrative and detailed reports and graphs that support forecasting and planning.
- Provides advice and assistance to staff regarding functions and applications of weigh scale system data; investigates and resolves routine weigh scale software problems and contacts the vendor as required.
- Maintains central scale system computer database records and monitors all scale house computer files; maintains system security; implements changes to system data files and definition tables in accordance with established pricing programs; identifies operational problems in the processes followed by scale operators and recommends revised procedures.
- Monitors and reconciles balances at transfer stations; reconciles solid waste volumes with revenues; calculates and monitors billings, split-fees, surcharges and credits according to established programs and procedures; reviews CCTV video and audio to resolve discrepancies; invoices customers, handles delinquent accounts and recommends writing off funds.
- Maintains contact with scale house operators, project engineers, accounting staff, solid waste system contractors, scale systems vendors, and customers; provides information and instructions on the recording and processing of waste flow transactions; responds to a variety of enquiries and problems; seeks to resolve customer complaints.
- Maintains, updates and distributes tables, manuals, policies and procedures files.
- Supervises the work of clerical subordinates as required.
- Performs related work as required.
To be successful, you have:
- Completion of the 12th school grade supplemented by courses in microcomputer computer applications and basic accounting with considerable experience in general office work in a related field in either a public or private agency or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
- Considerable knowledge of the principles, practices and procedures of maintaining a networked computerized weigh scale system for several waste processing facilities.
- Considerable knowledge of the operations of waste processing facilities and the Solid Waste industry as it relates to the work performed.
- Sound knowledge of computer applications including Microsoft Word and Excel as related to the work performed.
- Ability to prepare statistical and narrative reports, graphs and spreadsheets.
- Ability to maintain, verify, reconcile, extract and analyze a variety of data.
- Ability to make decisions in light of established precedents and resourcefulness in meeting new problems.
- Ability to communicate in a clear and concise manner both orally and in written form.
- Ability to maintain effective working relationships with other employees, contractors, the public, public officials, government and private agencies.
- Ability to prepare and maintain a variety of files, records, forms and lists.
- Driver's Licence for the Province of British Columbia.
