Description: The Child and Youth Worker will support the learning, achievement, and well-being of students in a faith-based, Catholic school environment where the centrality of Jesus Christ permeates all aspects of school life. Within the HWCDSB model of Each Belongs, in collaboration with school administrators, school teams, classroom teachers, central resource teachers: behavior team, and central inter- disciplinary teams, the Child and Youth Worker (CYW) will deliver universal evidence-based programs, interventions, and strategies for the purpose of prevention and early intervention, at assigned schools. The Child and Youth Worker will work with students of all ages affected by a range of needs, which might include social/emotional and/or behavioural difficulties. Support will be provided primarily in small groups or in whole class settings, and occasionally on an individual basis. Delivery of approved programs will occur both within and outside of the classroom setting, during both instructional and non- instructional time (e.g., lunchtime). This work does not involve clinical counselling. Details of Function: Deliver HWCDSB approved programs to students, including but not limited to Tools for Life, Zones of Regulation, Restorative Practices, etc.; Deliver HWCDSB approved programs and strategies to students to build skills in executive functioning, including behavior regulation, social/emotional regulation, and resiliency; Deliver HWCDSB approved programs and strategies to students that build student/peer relationships, including but not limited to Roots of Empathy, PEERS, Social Thinking; Second Step; etc.; Apply principles of Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA), i.e., functional behavior assessment, behavior support plan, ABA strategies, etc., where appropriate; Collect data as part of the observation and monitoring of students for the purpose of assisting in the development of an intervention plan or for the revision of goals; Participate, with the school team, in the development, implementation, and monitoring of the student plans, which may include the IEP, Behaviour Plan, Safety Plan and Transition Plan; Collaborate with school teams to recommend intervention and behaviour management strategies, including de-escalation strategies within a classroom; Communicate regularly with the classroom teacher; Model strategies and provide capacity-building sessions within a school environment for school staff; Maintain appropriate notetaking and record keeping, including anecdotal reports and records; Attend and participate in student planning meetings, including family meetings, SRT meetings, staff meetings, etc.; In accordance with respective privacy legislation, collaborate with community agencies to gather information regarding services and resources applicable to student and school programming needs; Provide professional development sessions on system professional activity days, (e.g., ABA, Zones of Regulation, Tools for Life, etc.); Participate in training as required by the HWCDSB; and, Assume other duties/responsibilities related to student needs as determined by the Assistant Superintendent of Education. Qualifications: (Applicants shall possess the following as of date of posting) Child and Youth Worker diploma (college level) or Child and Youth Care degree (university level) or equivalent, from a recognized institution; Eligibility for membership in the Ontario Association of Child and Youth Care. Preference will be given to the candidate who possesses the following: A minimum of three years of successful experience as a Child and Youth Worker in an educational setting; Comprehensive understanding of the developmental needs of children/youth; Behaviour Management Systems (BMS) certified or willingness to be trained; ABA training from a recognized institution; Experience in the application of principles of ABA; Skill and comfort in preparation and delivery of professional development sessions; Familiarity with the Education Act, the Child and Family Services Act, and the Child, Youth and Family Services Act, 2017; Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work professionally as a member of a Catholic professional learning community with staff, students, and parents; Excellent oral and written communication skills; Ability to take initiative; Ability to maintain a high degree of confidentiality as mandated by relevant legislation; Strong computer literacy skills; Awareness of community-based supports for students with exceptionalities.
