What You’ll Do
You’ll act with integrity to:
- Plan, schedule, organize, assign, review and evaluate the work of LPS personnel in an effective and positive manner, with emphasis on mentoring and development, ensuring appropriate coverage for all shifts and assignments.
- Interpret laws, codes, policies, and procedures for staff; ensure legality and consistency of application. Respond to emergencies and unusual situations, direct personnel and equipment at major incidents and events and assumes Incident Command as appropriate.
- Prepare, review, interpret, and analyze a variety of information, data, and reports. Recommends and implements policies and procedures to improve operational effectiveness and enhancements to services or programs.
- Participate in the recruitment, selection and hiring of Service personnel.
- Endorse, support, and defend organizational objectives, by complying with organizational rules and procedures, suggesting improvements, and conveying a positive and professional image of the LPS to others. Represents the LPS at meetings, committees, and events, as assigned.
- Assist with development of goals, objectives, and work standards for the Service; assists with the development and administration of budget.
- Perform audits of Service elements to ensure compliance with policy, procedures, and standards. Maintain and direct the maintenance of LPS files. Develops, maintains, and exercises emergency response procedures.
You’ll support our collaboration as you:
- Manage and utilize the Canadian Police Information Center (CPIC) and Authorized Requester Information System (ARIS) in accordance with existing service policy, Federal, Provincial policy, and legislation concerning privacy and information.
- Maintain thorough understanding of Provincial Legislation governing Special Investigations Unit (SIU)
- Oversee professional standards investigations, investigates, and resolves concerns stemming from requests for service or complaints regarding Service delivery or personnel. Exhibit a service orientation toward internal and external customers, through respect, support, and cooperation. Contribute to building a positive work environment.
- Provide and coordinate mutual aide to partner agencies in accordance with Service policy.
- Act instead for the Director in his/her absence and performs other related activities as required.
How You Qualify
- Must possess proven leadership skills to manage the day-to-day operations of the organization. This may be demonstrated through a combination of education, training, and senior law enforcement experience.
- Demonstrates the ability to manage, lead, and support organizational change and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Requires thorough knowledge of legislation, policies, and procedures relevant to the mandate of the LPS, along with strong strategic thinking and resource management skills to implement complex operational plans and work schedules.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills are required to effectively supervise subordinates, liaise with law enforcement agencies, and interact with the public and key stakeholders.
- Must demonstrate excellent judgment, problem-solving, and critical-thinking skills to oversee the enforcement of laws, respond to critical incidents, and manage highly confidential and sensitive information.
- Must demonstrate the ability to meet annual use-of-force and firearms certification standards.
- Strong written communication skills are required to develop policies, operational plans, reports, and briefing notes.
- Requires eligibility for designation as a Peace Officer.
- Requires completion of all basic Peace Officer training, the Senior Police Administration Course (or equivalent), and role-specific training, including but not limited to Provincial Public Order Commanders Course, firearms and tactical training, and incident command courses.
