Group Underwriter

Saskatchewan Blue Cross®, one of Saskatchewan’s Top Employers, is currently recruiting for a full-time permanent _Group Underwriter_ to join our team in the Underwriting Department. This position offers the flexibility to be in-office or participate in hybrid options in either our Saskatoon or Regina office.

**JOB FUNCTION**

If you have a keen eye for detail, strong communication, arithmetic, problem solving, and organizational skills, then we’re looking for you Working under the direct supervision of the Team Lead, Underwriting, and reporting directly to the Manager, Underwriting, this position is responsible for supporting the sales effort through the timely and accurate risk assessment and rating of both prospective and in-force group business and through the provision of superior service. Key functions include quote, renewal, and closed case activity of a less complex nature within the Group Underwriting team.

**DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES**
- Assess the risk for group life, disability, health, and dental business
- Analyze and determine appropriate group rates in relation to group health, life, and income replacement benefits for new and existing group businesses
- Adhere to established underwriting standards, guidelines, and procedures
- Review new business opportunities to determine if the plan and client under consideration will contribute to SBC’s strategic objectives
- Work closely with the Sales team to support corporate business objectives of profitable growth and increased retention of existing clients
- Prepare and maintain renewals, revisions, quotations, and all subsequent closure documentation as required
- Document all key decisions and actions
- Effectively communicate underwriting information to related parties
- Provide support to the Underwriting Coordinator position and the overall group health and life sales effort
- Perform other duties and special projects as assigned

**QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS**
- Completion of a Bachelor’s Degree (preference will be given to mathematical sciences, commerce, or a related field) and previous experience in the insurance industry, or with underwriting group health and life benefits is preferred. An equivalent combination of training and experience may be considered
- Ability to work effectively with others in a team environment
- Strong mathematical and analytical abilities
- Demonstrated professional interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal
- Strong organizational, problem solving, and decision-making skills
- Demonstrated ability to multi-task, handle shifting priorities, and meet deadlines while maintaining strict confidentiality
- Results oriented with the ability to thrive in a fast paced, dynamic environment
- Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office including Word and Excel with a technical ability to easily learn new software programs
- Willingness to pursue CEBS and/or other underwriting related courses

- Must be legally entitled to work in Canada on an unrestricted basis
