**Responsibilities of the Student Placement Coordinator at **Lancaster Long Term Care Residence**

The Student Placement Coordinator coordinates student placement, orientation, and onboarding of students and staff.

The Student Placement Coordinator is responsible for scheduling and conducting general orientation for all new employees, contracted employees, students, volunteers, private caregivers, and agency staff in the Home.

Responsible for monitoring student placements within the Home.

Essential Duties are the technical skills and knowledge an employee requires to perform their role. Below is detailed information on required Essential Duties for your position.
- Responsible for scheduling all general orientation days for all students and assists the staff development coordinator or designate with all new employees, contract employees, volunteers, private caregivers and agency staff.
- Guides all new students and assists the Staff Development Coordinator or designate with nursing personnel through their entire nursing orientation
- Assists the Employee Engagement Specialist or designate in collecting and processing mandatory documentation required from students (eg. Student files)
- Plans and execute orientation in the Home, including, but not limited to, providing tours and introducing students/new hires to residents and team members
- Liaises with Community Colleges and Universities to arrange student placement in-house
- Prepares all employee preceptors for student clinical placements
- Follows students and preceptors and acts as a resource and advisor
- Promotes and recruits team members into a preceptor role
- Coordinates the placement schedule and pair students with preceptor team members in consultation with the Director of Care and/or department head
- Coordinates the evaluation of the student placement program in the Home, including, but not limited to, preceptor and student feedback on the experience
- Liaises with the Home’s preceptors to ensure they have the knowledge and resources to support students
- Check-in with students/new hires to ensure the placement is going well and there is no gap in their orientation
- Other duties as assigned and or indicated in Job Task Inventory

**Qualifications**

- Current RPN certificate of competency from the College of Nurses of Ontario
- Extended work experience in Long Term Care
- Good written and oral communication skills
- Completion of course work or experience in adult education at a Community College or University level or relevant work experience.
- Experience in mentoring students and staff
- Previous experience as a preceptor is an asset
- **Must have a clear vulnerable sector screen, no older than 6 months, TB test results less than 6 months old, must be able to provide two supervisory references.**:
