**Working for the Department/Faculty**

The Psychiatry Department at the University of Alberta & Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry is at the forefront of mental health research, blending fundamental scientific principles with clinical investigations. Our primary focus is to facilitate cutting-edge studies on matters pertinent to mental health.

Our department is distinguished by a diverse and esteemed cadre of scientists who have earned international recognition. These scholars are spearheading pioneering research endeavors in the fields of neuropsychiatry, mood and anxiety disorders, and schizophrenia.

**Position**

**Duties**
- Trains new staff and students to use equipment, conduct experiments, and complete lab-related tasks
- Works with PI to develop and conduct experiments in the field of psychiatric genetics
- Ordering and maintenance of equipment, supplies, and consumables
- Maintains lab inventories and registries, including equipment inventory, chemical inventory, biosafety registry, Safety Data Sheets (SDS), etc. Communicates with inventory & registry designates on behalf of the PI

**Minimum Qualifications**
- Completion of High School supplemented by a Technical Diploma (2 years) from a recognized technical school
- At least 12 months of directly related research laboratory experience, including proficiency with relevant laboratory techniques (quantitative polymerase chain reaction including gene copy number probe analysis, TaqMan genotyping, Luminex, Agena MassARRAY, and sample preparation for single-molecule long-read sequencing).
- Good organizational and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication (oral and written) and interpersonal skills; accuracy and attention to detail.
- Adaptable, self-motivated individual, able to work well in a team and independently as required.

**Preferred Qualifications**
- BSc or a Masters degree, or higher
