**JOB DESCRIPTION**

**Position**:Board Liaison - Police Board** - The Anishinabek Police Service requires one (1) full-time Board Liaison based at one of our detachments. This position is non-union and will work Monday to Friday, 40 hours/week.

**Reports to**: Police Governing Authority Chair / Chief of Police
**Accountable to**: Police Governing Authority
**Location**: Anishinabek Police Service Detachment

**Qualifications**

**Cultural Specific, ** **Knowledge of Service Area Population**
- Knowledge of philosophy appropriate for local Ojibway customs and culture for the APS communities with respectfulness and sensitivity to the history and needs of Anishinabek persons.
- Ability to travel by all modes of transportation to respective communities

**Entry Qualifications ** **including Technical Knowledge and Skills**
- Ability to learn very quickly in a fast-paced environment; problem solve and exercise good judgment
- Valid Class G Driver’s License
- Must be bondable
- Must pass Anishinabek Police Service background check and provide satisfactory Criminal Record Check when requested

**Education**
Post-secondary education in communications, business administration, or a related field, or equivalent in education/experience.

**Experience**
- Knowledge of effective use, maintenance of MS Word, Excel,
- 5 years’ experience working in a First Nations environment
- Experience in First Nation Leadership/Governance capacity is an asset

A. Delivers Culturally Sensitive approach in Services
- Knowledge of various cultural diversities of APS communities and especially specific to Anishinaabe communities; communicate with members of the public and all justice partners in a sensitive and respectful manger
- Demonstrate respect for Ojibwe traditions, language, customs and culture while carrying out duties
- Fluency or knowledge, and willingness to learn and use the Ojibwe language in the workplace

B. Contributes to Teamwork & Positive Working Relationships
- Maintain a positive rapport and good working relationship with personnel of the police service and other justice partners; includes but is not limited to other police agencies, courts and other Anishinabek/non-Anishinaabe partner services located in APS service areas.

- Performs all administrative duties related to the Police Service Board including but not limited to scheduling/arranging meetings, preparing all correspondence and packages, agenda, minutes and tracking motions.
- Book all travel arrangements for the Board
- Composing and editing standard and routine correspondence
- Recording meeting dates, appointments, and other operational agendas
- Receiving, date stamping mail and packages; distribution of mail
- Receiving and transmitting facsimiles, photocopying and ensure proper dissemination of correspondence to Board
- Review and assist in the preparation of reports (Annual Report, Quarterly Financial Reports, Board Reports), Board memos, charts, presentations, meeting minutes, and proof-read to ensure accuracy of grammar, spelling, and punctuation.
- Maintains all files for the Police Services Board business
- Coordinate and be responsible for Event Planning for the Police Service Board including meetings, Chiefs Assemblies, Tribal Council Meetings, train
