**The Position**:
Reporting to the President and CEO, the Vice President, Government Relations provides senior leadership in the effective management of the Association related to public affairs, strategic communications, and advocacy. Lead the industry’s advocacy strategy on key priority matters with Parliamentarians, government officials, regulators, key stakeholders and international member organizations.

**What you will be working on**:
- Develop and deepen the CLHIA’s relationship with key member insurer GR teams
- Develop and implement outreach and advocacy plans driven by CLHIA’s priority issues.
- Develop and deepen the Association’s key relationships with stakeholders/Parliamentarians and member companies.
- Provide strategic advice and guidance on issues management.
- Lead government relations initiatives federally and provincially; including defining the strategic direction and overseeing the success of initiatives.
- Develop strategic communications for emerging issues and industry views
- Overall accountability for the CLHIA conference planning division
- Oversee corporate communications including materials, media relations, translations, events, conferences, advocacy program initiatives etc.
- Participate in all corporate projects requiring communication materials/plans, identify and resolving problems, and oversee communications & publications as required in order to ensure sensitive and potentially controversial topics and communication approaches are effectively handled.
- Lead major national advocacy campaigns including paid social media advertising on behalf of the industry in collaboration with the CLHIA’s government relations committee. Accountable for use of outside consultants, managing the budget and reporting to the respective Standing Committee and the Board of Directors.
- Contribute to key priorities, ensuring respective department plans are submitted, reviewed and consolidated for Board presentation and approvals.
- Act as Secretary to the respective Standing Committee(s) and attend all standing committees to ensure appropriate public affairs support.
- Establish key relationships with federal and provincial elected representatives, public officials, stakeholder associations, government relations institutes/ other financial institutions.
- Provide executive leadership to the CLHIA as part of the CLHIA’s Management committee.
