The Trucking Industry Liaison (Highway Infrastructure) serves as a technical resource to the Engineering & Technical Services (ETS), Transportation Operations (TO), and Infrastructure, Capital Projects (ICP) Divisions, assessing and making recommendations regarding the relationship between technical standards and regulatory requirements/policy enforcement as they pertain to safe and efficient traffic movements by commercial motor carriers. The position is also responsible for developing relationships and networks with internal and external stakeholders within Manitoba Transportation and Infrastructure and the trucking/transportation industry.

Qualifications:
**Essential**:
- Completion of post-secondary education in the areas of vehicle dynamic performance characteristics, vehicle safety, and highway operations. Related experience and training in the transportation or trucking industry maybe considered.
- Experience in the business of vehicle weights and dimensions (including the dynamic performance of commercial vehicles).
- Management experience with demonstrated strengths in policy development and stakeholder consultations.
- Demonstrated leadership skills with experience leading cross functional teams and implementing organizational change.
- Supervisory experience with the ability to lead, coach and performance manage staff.
- A working knowledge of highway planning, design, construction, and maintenance principles.
- Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively and courteously with internal and external stakeholders.
- Effective organizational and time management skills to manage multiple priorities according to changing circumstances and environments.
- Strong analytical and problem solving skills with the ability to use logical and creative thought processes.
- Strong verbal communication skills.
- Strong written communication skills.
**Duties**:
Reporting to the Director of Traffic Engineering, the Trucking Industry Liaison (Highway Infrastructure) key responsibilities include;
- Develops recommendations related to highway operations to improve truck traffic safety and efficiency of movements on a province-wide basis.
- Conducts interviews/consultations with the Manitoba Trucking Association (and its member firms) and with similar agencies across Canada.
- Represents Manitoba on national truck weight and dimension consultations.
- Undertakes relevant reviews of industry literature and academic research.
- Develops and updates a conceptual framework for the trucking industry’s needs relative to intelligent transportation systems throughout the provincial highway network.
