Fuel Transport is seeking a skilled **Payroll Technician** for our office located in LaSalle, Quebec. Reporting to the Payroll Supervisor, you will be responsible for accurate and timely processing of payroll for both hourly and salaried employees working for our Canadian and US entities. You will be expected to answer employee inquiries, collaborate with HR coordinators, and maintain up-to-date records. Staying current with payroll regulations and ensuring confidentiality, you will resolve discrepancies promptly, contributing to the smooth operation of our payroll processes.

**Responsibilities**:

- Main duties include preparing payroll backups, verifying and processing weekly and semi-monthly pays for Canadian and US entities.
- Verify payroll data for accuracy, including employee timesheets, benefits deductions, and tax withholding and resolving payroll discrepancies or issues.
- Ensure timely processing of payroll and meeting designated deadlines.
- Prepare and balance deductions at source remittance files and approve wire confirmations.
- Manage garnishments and alimony deductions.
- Issue Records of Employment and respond to inquiries from Service Canada.
- Respond to employee inquiries regarding payroll, taxes, earnings, and deductions.
- Collaborate with HR Coordinators on matters related to employee pay including group benefits.
- Maintain up-to-date and easily accessible payroll records and files.
- Stay up to date on payroll regulations and ensure compliance with legal requirements.
- Maintain strict confidentiality of employee information and payroll data.
- Participate in a year end process and fulfill other payroll related duties as required.

**Education & Qualifications**:

- Certificate or diploma in Payroll, Accounting, Human Resources Management, or a related field is an asset.
- One to three years of experience in a Payroll Technician or similar role.
- Membership with NPI (National Payroll Institute) is an asset.
- Proven experience and strong knowledge of payroll processes, regulations, and best practices.
- Demonstrated proficiency in utilizing payroll software or systems, with a valuable familiarity with UKG (Ultimate Kronos Group) as an added advantage.
- Excellent mathematical and numerical skills.
- High attention to detail and accuracy.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information.
- Knowledge of relevant labor laws and regulations for Canada and US.
- Certification or training in payroll administration is a plus.
