**Job Summary**:
Under the direction of the Environmental Manager/designate the Handyman/woman ensures that the environment throughout the facility is safe. The position will focus on general maintenance duties to ensure the building and all equipment is in good working order.

**Responsible to**:

- Environmental Services Manager
- Executive Director/designate (in absence of ESM)

**Responsibilities**:

- Provides general maintenance of equipment including heating/cooling equipment, resident care equipment, lighting, kitchen and laundry equipment.
- Provides general maintenance of building and outdoor structures.
- Performs general maintenance including patching & painting, plumbing, electrical, mechanical repairs
- Assists Environmental Service Manager in maintaining regular maintenance audits
- Works with external contractors to ensure a safe environment for residents and staff
- Keeps work areas clean and free from unsafe conditions.
- Interacts with residents and staff in a manner in keeping with the home's Mission, Vision and Values
- Assists in receiving, checking and storing of incoming supplies as required. Advises Environmental Manager of need for supplies.
- Adheres to regulations relating to the labelling of chemicals, storage of chemicals and safe use of chemicals. Has knowledge of WHMIS and strives to achieve compliance
- Has knowledge of MOHLTC Standards and adheres to practices to ensure standards are consistently being met.
- Has knowledge of Occupational Health & Safety legislation and strives to achieve these standards within the work environment.
- Follows Infection Control Practices within the work place.
- Participates in education sessions for the department and the facility.
- Participates in departmental meetings.
- Other duties as assigned

**QUALIFICATIONS**:
**Experience**:

- Minimum of 1 year experience in general maintenance in a healthcare or educational setting
- Preferred education or background in engineering or trades
- Experience in painting, plumbing, electrical and mechanical repairs

**Personal**:

- Good mental and physical health; free from communicable diseases.
- Ability to work with people and to follow directions from others.
- Ability to work with other departments and to show flexibility in emergency situations.
- Willingness to follow company policies.
- Must be physically able to lift and transfer moderate to heavy equipment/boxes.
- Must be able to work accurately, quickly, and safely.
- Must be an effective team player that works well with others.
- Must be able to work and communicate effectively with long-term care residents.

**Education & Training**:must participate in annual training sessions relating to:

- Fire Safety
- Occupational Health & Safety Reviews
- Infection Prevention and Control
- Abuse & Neglect recognition and prevention
- Other education and training sessions as required through legislation
- Education sessions will be provided in house, externally or through on-line learning.
- Department Specific Education programs

**Job Type**: Casual

**Salary**: $21.00-$23.00 per hour

Expected hours: 7.5 - 30 per week
