Homeward Trust Holding Company (HTHC) is a not-for-profit organization that operates companies to support the mission of ending homelessness. HTHC is comprised of three entities: Find Furniture Bank (Find), 1654889 AB Ltd., and 1075877 AB Ltd.
- **Find **is a social enterprise, operating in partnership with Homeward Trust Foundation (HTF) and housing-focused community agencies. Find’s goals are to provide essential furnishings free of charge to individuals and families who are moving out of homelessness and to supply low-cost, quality furniture and housewares for sale to the public. Find’s creation has its roots in the realization that access to affordable furniture was a key component in allowing the homeless to be housed and housing sustainability.
- **1654889 AB Ltd**. focuses on housing and development and holds land and properties requiring ongoing management and development, including supportive and affordable housing.
- **1075877 AB Ltd.** manages special project contracts that are funded by Homeward Trust Foundation. This entity manages properties under receivership which operates multiple properties for the Indigenous population.

Whether it is helping to furnish a home through Find Furniture Bank Ltd., managing existing properties under the current portfolio, or participating in specialized housing development projects, HTHC is a dedicated partner in the collective effort to end homelessness in Edmonton.

**Position Summary**

The Maintenance Technician is responsible for providing general maintenance, repair, and upkeep of occupied and vacant residential properties, buildings, and land that are owned managed, or administered by Homeward Trust Edmonton. Our housing portfolio includes over 25 buildings (primarily residential or apartment units) that are directly owned or managed in partnership with other stakeholders, with 70 units of designated Indigenous housing requiring both tenant and property management.

This position reports directly to the Maintenance Supervisor. This is a mobile role requiring self-management, initiative, independence of action, and personal accountability, as the majority of duties are conducted off-site and at multiple locations.

**Education and Experience**
- Minimum High School diploma or equivalent combination of experience and education with technical-related courses in trades (carpentry, electrical, plumbing, etc.)
- Minimum 4 years of experience in residential repair, renovations, and maintenance
- WHMIS, First Aid, and related safety tickets are required
- Experience in dealing with tenants, contractors, and related stakeholders.
- Experience in Indigenous and Indigenous peoples, human services, not-for-profit organizations, and working with disadvantaged individuals is an asset.

**Knowledge, Skills**,** and Abilities**
- Thorough knowledge and understanding of maintenance systems and equipment.
- Able to safely operate a variety of power and non-power tools.
- General construction, plumbing, and electrical knowledge.
- Safely operate landscaping equipment such as lawnmowers, trimmers, hedgers, etc.
- Able to maneuver up to 70 kg with proper equipment.
- Able to spend up to eight hours walking, standing, climbing, crouching, lifting, and bending.
- Knowledge of legislation about residential tenancies, building operating systems & maintenance, and health and safety regulations.
- Ability to work independently while managing multiple projects/priorities. Self-motivated with strong initiative and pride in work.
- Ability to obtain information and identify key issues to effectively analyze situations, problem solve, and make decisions.
- Demonstrated attention to detail; accomplishing tasks by considering all areas involved and showing concern for all aspects of the job.
- Able to build relationships with others (tenants, colleagues, contractors, and vendors) to achieve results and a reputation for delivering exceptional customer service.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, foster openness and active listening. Able to deal with difficult situations and manage conflict. Able to multi-task and prioritize work.

**Key Responsibilities**
- As assigned by the Maintenance Supervisor, plan, coordinate and complete repairs/maintenance and improvements for all buildings, fixtures, appliances, equipment, and other general upkeep on a timely basis to ensure tenant satisfaction and safety
- Complete minor suite renovations or upgrade work including painting, general carpentry, plumbing, and light fixture upgrades. This includes troubleshooting and performing minor repairs on appliances, plumbing /electrical systems
- Complete general maintenance to building exteriors, parking areas, and common areas
- General landscaping, mowing, hedge trimming, shoveling sidewalks, and common walkways. This may include picking up trash, sweeping curb and dumpster areas, and maintaining landscaping beds and other areas.
