The Safety Officer will produce a variety of safety performance data for all levels of the organization. Examination of existing processes and systems is also a key area of responsibility. The incumbent will also entail participation in integrated audits of safety processes and field execution of CN’s Safety Management System (SMS) and local Safety Action Plans to ensure compliance. Direct interface with distribution services terminal managers will be a significant portion of the position. This will require the incumbent to possess exemplary communication skills. Guidance with respect to accident and incident reporting criteria to managers will be essential. The incumbent will be responsible for ensuring integrity in reporting of all Corporate Safety data through monitoring and auditing of safety performance data. The position will also have some direct exposure to Safety and Health Committees through interface with an occasional participation in, Safety and Health Committees and their regular scheduled meetings.

The position will have strong linkages with Regional Distribution Services and Risk Management officers, and provide feedback and support as required to assist them in driving safety initiatives on the Regions.

**Qualifications and Requirements**
- Minimum 5 years of relevant field experience
- Experience with emergency response/spill response
- Experience in project management
- Experience in management of professional consultants
- Experience contaminated sites management
- Experience in operating and capital budget forecasting, planning and management
- Experience with Railway Operating Rules*
- Any experience for these above would be considered as an asset
- Engineering Degree or Bachelor of Science degree with a preference for Environmental Science or Environmental
- Post secondary education in Safety Industrial Hygiene*
- Safety Industrial Hygiene Certification*
- Any designation for these above would be considered as an asset
