SUMMER GARDENER (Student position)

Anova is a non-profit organization in London, Ontario operating within a feminist model. Anova provides shelter, advocacy, support and education in an effort to better serve survivors of abuse and sexual violence.

This position is partially funded by Service Canada Summer Jobs program.
- **To be eligible**_ **under this grant **_**applicants must meet all requirements: is between 15 to 30 years of age (inclusive) at the start of employment; is legally entitled to work according to the relevant provincial legislation and regulations; and is a Canadian Citizen, permanent resident, or person on whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act [S.C. 2001, c. 27] (International students are not eligible. Recent immigrants are eligible if they are Canadian Citizens or permanent residents).**_

**Primary Job Functions**:

- Work within environmentally sound gardening practices at Anova
- Maintain & improve the grounds and gardens at 3 of the Anova locations
- Cut, prune, weed and provide all general lawn and garden maintenance on a weekly basis while practicing healthy & safe personal care in the varied summer weather
- Assist maintenance / custodial staff indoors during inclement weather or when asked
- Provide gardening recommendations as appropriate

**Ideal Academic Requirements, Experience and Qualities**:

- Enrolled in a postsecondary landscaping/related program/equivalent experience
- Knowledge of plants and bushes and how to properly maintain
- Physical ability to perform all landscape and gardening duties safely in all kinds of weather
- Environmental awareness and knowledge of safe gardening practices
- Self-motivated with sound decision making skills
- Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment
- Ability to assist with custodial and maintenance duties as required
- A feminist perspective

**Hours of Work, Wages and Personal Equipment Required**:

- Start June 19th, 2023; 30 hours per week for 9 weeks; start 7:30am Monday to Friday at 3 different sites
- Rate of pay $15.50 per hour plus 6% vacation pay
- _Safety Boots required at the applicant’s expense_
- Transportation required to work at all 3 sites easily and with flexibility within the workday
