**Counsellor - 12 month Term Position**

**Hours - 0.3 EFT - 21.75 hours bi-weekly**

**Hourly Wage - $33.79 - $40.80**

**Summary of Position**:
A professional independent practitioner, fully accountable and responsible for their own clinical counselling practice, working as part of a multi-disciplinary team, plays a key role in enhancing access to and quality service delivery of various health services to individuals and families.

Grounded in person-centered, culturally safe and social justice oriented practice and a commitment to compassionate and responsive engagement, the counsellor creates and maintains a therapeutic environment for the people we serve to identify and work towards their goals.

The counsellor will provide assessments for suitability/fit for counselling services; provide direct clinical counselling and crisis intervention and make appropriate external and internal referrals.

**KEY RESPONSIBILITIES**:
**Intake and Assessment**:

- Builds effective and compassionate rapport and relationships with all stakeholders, especially those seeking services/supports or programming from Huddle South Central.
- Provides assessment and fit of individuals referred to them for service and supports.
- Completes effective and compassionate suicide risk assessments as required.

**Collaborative and Integrated Service Delivery**:

- Maintains accurate documentation as it relates to clinical interventions and intake processes as per recognized standards and best practices.
- Prepares and maintains statistical data, correspondence, reports and other documentation as required.
- Provides health/wellness information, educational materials and delivers relevant health education to others (within scope of practice and credentials).

**Clinical Counselling/Psycho-education**
- Practices from person-centered, trauma informed/healing centered, culturally safe and social justice perspectives in all their interactions within the counselling setting.
- Demonstrates advanced level knowledge of various clinical counselling interventions with individuals, families and groups.
- Accurately assesses emotional health, substance use and related presenting issues, taking into account the larger life and environmental context of the individual/family/group. (social determinants of health, oppression, colonialism etc.)
- Develops, promotes, and delivers therapeutic programs (individual, family, groups) and in collaboration with other professions where appropriate.

**Qualifications**:

- Completion of recognized counselling program (Master level preferred) or combination of related degree and experience
- Minimum 5 years’ counselling experience in social services/community health organization
- Demonstrated capacity to build effective and safe rapport/relationships
- Demonstrated competency in psychosocial assessment and service/system navigation
- Extensive knowledge of community resources and health and social services system
- Demonstrated ability to work with multi-disciplinary teams
- Demonstrated knowledge of current standards of practice and ethics
- Demonstrated ability to work with diverse populations and those who are systematically oppressed.
- Excellent communication skills
- Demonstrated ability to work with individuals experiencing distress
- Demonstrated capacity in crisis intervention and de-escalation.
- Demonstrated bilingualism is an asset (French and English or English and another language)

**Job Types**: Part-time, Fixed term contract
Contract length: 12 months

Pay: $33.79-$40.80 per hour
