**Duties**:
Under the general direction of a Research Scientist responsible for the DFO-Maritimes Ecosystem Stressors Program, the incumbent will be responsible for developing a cumulative habitat risk assessment for coastal and marine ecosystems throughout Atlantic Canada to inform marine planning and conservation needs. This computer-based research will include the collection, processing, analysis, and management of large spatial datasets; communicating scientific results; preparation and writing of technical reports and primary publications. The incumbent will also be responsible for liaising with scientists, biologists, managers, and clients, within DFO across multiple regions.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES OF THE POSITION:

- Prepare, plan, and contribute to the writing of scientific papers and/or technical reports.
- Communicate research findings, and provide recommendations to the research community and clients.

We are seeking qualified people to fill one (1) Aquatic Science Biologist II position in the Ecosystem Stressors Program on a 2-year term basis.

EDUCATION:
Graduation with a degree from a recognized post-secondary institution in a natural, physical or applied science with primary specialization in a field relevant to the duties of the position.

EXPERIENCE:

- Experience using Geographical Information Systems software (e.g. ArcGIS, R, QGIS) to aggregate data, process information, and/or conduct spatial analysis.
- Experience assessing impacts of anthropogenic stressors on aquatic species, habitats, and/or ecosystems.
- Experience in authoring or coauthoring scientific papers and reports.
- Experience in compiling, managing, and maintaining data of a scientific project.

- Graduation with a Masters or Doctoral degree from a recognized post-secondary institution in a natural, physical or applied science with primary specialization in a field relevant to the duties of the position.

EXPERIENCE:

- Experience using computer or scripting languages (i.e. R, Python, or equivalent) for the statistical analysis of biological and/or ecological data.
- Experience using models or frameworks for assessing risk (i.e. DFO ERAF, InVEST) to coastal and marine habitats or species from exposure to human activities.

KNOWLEDGE:

- Knowledge of the cumulative effects of environmental and anthropogenic stressors on aquatic ecosystems.

**Conditions of employment**:

- Willing and able to travel provincially or nationally to participate in meetings and workshops.
- Possession of a valid driver’s license or mobility to the extent of possession of a valid driver’s license within the limits of Treasury Board policy.
