Community Living Welland Pelham believes in an inclusive community where children and youth who have an intellectual disability can fully participate in all aspects of summer camp. In working with the Lead Counsellor, the Camp Counsellor is responsible for the implementation of day-to-day activities and special events for children in a group setting. This person will provide high quality indoor and outdoor educational and recreational experiences for participants that focus on the High Five Principles which are: a caring adult, friends, play, mastery and participation.

This position is through a Canadian Summer Jobs Grant and in order to qualify for this position you must be between the ages of 15 and 30 years of age at the beginning of the employment period. You must also be available for the entire duration of the program.

Duties and Responsibilities:

- Responsible for knowing, understanding, and executing all policies and emergency procedures associated with the camp
- Assist the Lead Counsellor in orienting all campers to camp rules and expectations
- Responsible for supporting one child, or a small group of children, and ensuring that all campers are always accounted for, safe, and engaged
- Identify any issues or areas of concern for staff, campers, and bring concerns to the Lead Counsellor
- Willing and able to provide personal care as needed
- Work effectively within a team environment
- Perform other related duties as assigned

Qualifications for this position are as follows:

- Pursuing an education and career in areas of developmental disability, youth studies or social services is an asset
- Experience supporting children and youth (experience supporting children with a intellectual disability is an asset)
- Ability to develop positive and respectful relationships with others
- Collaborative team player but ability to also work independently
- Creative problem solving abilities
- Responsible, reliable and trustworthy
- First Aid and CPR, High Five and Non-Violent Crisis Intervention Training is an asset; however, successful applicants will receive this training
- Clear Police Vulnerable Sector Check (as per CLWP's police background check procedure)

**Job Types**: Fixed term contract, Seasonal
Contract length: 2 months

Expected hours: 35 - 40 per week

Schedule:

- Day shift
- Monday to Friday
