POSITION CONTEXT

In close collaboration with the Research and Innovation sector unit Digital Research Service (DRS) Hub, the analyst will support researchers on topics related to Information Security such as vulnerability management, system design, incident management and general IT topics. Assist with the implementation of controls, policies and other means with the aim to assure the confidentiality, integrity and availability of data and IT infrastructure components within the McGill research scope. Research, design and implement hardware and software security solutions related to research activities.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

- Plan, implement and oversee the operation of the University information security protection program with respect to research activities across all areas at McGill.
- Participate in the evolution and deployment of security and awareness training to research teams.
- Manage response to security incidents (e.g. data breaches). Aggregate, correlate and analyze data.
- Ensure compliance with established regulations, standards, policies, procedures, and configuration security guidelines.
- Manage information security vendor assessments, security attestations, re-certifications, audits, risk assessments, security testing.
- Advise researchers on the design, implementation and integration of security information and event management (SIEM), log management, anomaly detection, and configuration and vulnerability management.
- Design and implement information security solutions/infrastructure for research.
- Manage information security risks. Assess risk strategies to manage risk. Provide solutions for remediation and compensating controls.
- Support the planning and implementation of identity and access management/governance tools and processes for researchers.
- Review and analyze security device configurations and policies.

EXPERIENCE

Education: Undergraduates Degree

Experience: Three (3) years related experience

Desired: Certification: CISSP, or CISA, or Master’s Degree in Information Systems Security (MASc) or Certificate in Security Analysis and Information System from HEC.

Background checks: Criminal background and financial (annual)

Oncall rotation may be required.

OTHER QUALIFYING SKILLS AND/OR ABILITIES
- Possess expertise in identity and access governance/management, network/data security, protection and countermeasures, risk management, auditing, incident response, forensics, and security/penetration testing.
- Demonstrated mastery of security tools.
- Experience in programming, batch processing. SQL Language and database administration is a definite asset.
- Experience administering windows and/or linux environments.
- Demonstrated business acumen, process-oriented thinking, communication skills, project management, time management, self-reliance and strong technical writing skills.
- Well organized with ability to prioritize to meet regular deadlines.
- Knowledge of French and English. McGill University is an English-language university where day to day duties may require English communication both verbally and in writing.
