Position: Field Automation Technician

Locations: Red Deer, Eckville, and Rocky Mountain House

Position Type: Full-Time

Competitive base rate including:
Vacation Pay: 10% of base rate, consisting of 6% Vacation Pay and 4% Statutory Pay.

Position Summary:

- RTU's - Emerson FloBoss and ROCs, Schneider SCADAPack x70s and 300 Series, Bristols Control Wave Micros and XFC's, Dynamic Flow Computer E-Charts and Zedi Smart-Aleks.
- PLC's - Allen Bradley Control Logix, Compact Logix, Micro Logix and SLC. Schneider PLC.
- HMI's - Proface, Beijier, Red Lions, Factort Talk Clients and PanelView Plus

The Field Automation Technician will play a pivotal role in the implementation and maintenance of automation systems, ensuring the successful execution of projects while upholding our commitment to safety and quality.

Must have working knowledge of conventional process systems and controls, with the ability to create and / or interpret and understand control drawings and documentation, including but not limited to, Process Flow Diagrams (“PFD”)’s, Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams (“P&ID”)’s, control system narratives, functional specifications, wiring diagrams / schematics, and cause and effect diagrams.

Must have a strong understanding of systems integration including applicable control equipment, operator interface, telemetry, networking, and communications infrastructure with proven experience designing, configuring, and programming Programmable Logic Controllers (“PLC”)’s, Human-Machine-Interface (“HMI”)’s, and Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (“SCADA”) platforms.

Key Responsibilities:

- Programming, configuration, and testing of PLC, RTU, and HMI systems utilizing project drawings, narratives, and control system documentation as required to implement client approved system operation and controls.
- Collaborate with project managers and team members to plan and execute automation projects effectively.
- Maintain a positive and professional attitude with internal and external stakeholders to expand our brand based on a foundation of trust, respect and support.
- Diagnose and troubleshoot automation system malfunctions, ensuring timely resolution.
- Provide technical support for the commissioning and start-up of automation equipment.
- Read and interpret technical diagrams, schematics, and manuals to ensure accurate installations.
- Conduct routine inspections to identify potential hazards or maintenance needs in automation systems.
- Adhere to safety protocols and maintain a safe working environment for self and team members.
- Provide mentorship and guidance to junior technicians as needed.
- Stay updated on industry trends, best practices, and advancements in automation technology.
- Maintain accurate records of work performed, materials used, and hours worked in automation projects.
- Collaborate with clients and internal stakeholders to ensure projects are completed to specifications and on time.

Qualifications:

- Valid trade certificate as either an Electrician or Instrument Technician, bachelor’s in engineering, or a Technology Diploma in a related field.
- Proven experience as a Field Automation Technician in industrial settings.
- Proficiency in reading technical diagrams, schematics, and manuals.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
- Commitment to safety protocols and practices.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Flexibility to adapt to changing project needs and priorities.
- Physical stamina and dexterity to perform tasks in various work conditions.
- Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
