**Mechanical Designer/Draftsperson - Permanent Full Time**

**What can I expect in this role?**

**You will**:

- Develop detailed design drawings and specifications for various projects using computer-assisted drafting (CAD) equipment.
- Meet project deadlines
- Complete scope of project from preliminary design concepts to working drawings
- Compute mathematical formulas to develop and design detailed specifications for components or machinery, using computer-assisted equipment.
- Position instructions and comments onto drawings.
- Check dimensions of materials to be used and assign numbers to the materials.
- Inform Manager as to status of work and advise of any problems or potential problems as early as possible with identified solutions.
- Examine drawings for conformity and errors.
- Daily interaction with various departments and outside consultants
- Provide support to job site and shop for any design requirements
- Identify, modify and revise drawings to correct operational deficiencies or meet customer demands
- Operate CNC computer software, including CAD and CAM programming to create nests and prepare parts for cutting.
- Perform other duties as assigned by management
- Complete weekly timesheets and customer sheets

**How do I qualify?**

Draftsperson Knowledge and Skills
- Drafting experience in a custom metal fabricating environment is an asset
- College Diploma in Drafting Technology or equivalent
- Knowledge of industry standards, codes and regulations as applicable
- Area of specialization: Mechanical, Structural

Communication and Interpersonal Skills:

- Effective time management and organization skills
- Ability to work independently and as a team
- Ability to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, reaching appropriate conclusions
- Discuss design problems with all levels of staff
- Excellent communication and writing skills

Computer Skills
- Computer aided design (CAD) software - Autodesk Inventor is an asset
- Microsoft Office

**What is the working environment like?**

**Working Conditions**

This position includes:

- Working at a desk for the majority of the time with occasional shop visits (steel toed boots required in the shop)
- Must be able to sit, stand for extended periods of time
- Ability to work extra hours to accommodate project deadlines

**Requirements**:

- 3+ years experience as a mechanical designer/draftsperson
- Worker health and safety in 4 steps
- Driver's License

**Location**:

**Transportation**
- Public transit is not available to the office

This is a Permanent Fulltime position. A work week consists of 44 hours. Overtime is required occasionally. Pay is based on experience and ability.
