**Job Title: Full-time Direct Support Worker**

**Please note this position requires evening and weekend availability.**

**Wage**:$16.50-$19.00/hr ($34,320-$39,520/year)

**Job Summary**

Inaadiziwin - “A Way of life” Community Connections (‘Inaadiziwin’) offers Cluster Housing and Supported Independent Living to young adults supported by Community Living disability Services. We provide a culturally based environment where relationships and attachments are prioritized, and physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual needs are nurtured.

The Direct Support Worker (DSW) provides support to participants in a Culturally Supportive Housing Facility and/or Community setting and is responsible for ensuring that the participant’s physical, emotional, social, educational, and medical needs are met. The DSW will also assist participants enhance their quality of life with activities of daily living and the development of life skills. The DSW is responsible for the delivery of quality individualized support and fostering a safe and comfortable home environment. Our approach is client-centered, non-judgmental, and anti-oppressive. We assess the specific needs of each participant, helping to build capacity using a strengths-based perspective rooted in Indigenous knowledges and practices.

**Qualifications**

**Education and Requirements**
- Grade 12 Diploma or equivalent.
- Post Secondary Diploma/Certificate in Community
Support Work, Indigenous studies, Mental health/Disability, Addictions, Social
services or related field, or a suitable combination of education and
experience is considered an asset.
- Current First Aid/CPR and Nonviolent Crisis
Intervention (NVCI) training is considered an asset.
- Clear criminal Record Check, Adult Abuse Registry Check, Child Abuse Registry Check.
- Valid Class 5 Driver’s License, and access to a
Vehicle.

**Experience**
- Experience working with individuals that have
developmental barriers including FASD, physical, mental, emotional, and
behavioral challenges and difficulties.
- Experience working with people struggling with addictions.
- An understanding of people who are marginalized is
considered an asset.
- Experience in the development of behavioural plans,
risk management (organizational and participant related) and the
person-centered approach.
- Knowledge of behaviour modification, supportive
communication, and the stages of change.
- Experience and knowledge of historical impacts of
colonization and Indigenous culture; knowledge and experience working with the
7 teachings would be considered an asset.
- Strong problem identification and usage of culturally
sensitive approaches to solving issues including conflict resolution.
- Self motivated with an ability to work independently.
- Computer skills including Microsoft Office.
- Diverse experience as a volunteer is an asset.

**Duties of the position**
- Support program objectives and individual plans.
- Assist in the development individual profiles and support plans.
- Collaborate with support team for services.
- Engage participants in goal setting and support in achieving these goals.
- Explore opportunities and accompany participants.
- Teach independent living skills.
- Assist with housing transition.
- Provide leadership and mentorship.
- Help with work/work experience opportunities.
- Monitor participant activities.
- Support personal care and oversee health care.
- Attend necessary appointments.

**Reporting**
- Complete required documentation regarding activities
of participants.
- Submit formal standardized written incident reports
following an incident with the participant.
- Respond to crisis/emergencies as required.
- Submit monthly reports and staff logs as required
(including mileage trackng).
- Perform other duties as assigned.
