Business Area & the role

Canada Customs Compliance Manager functions within the North American Customs Compliance Team to ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements for the import/export of shipments to and from Canada.

Job responsibilities
- Ensures compliance with all regulatory requirements for the import/export of shipments to and from Canada.
- Supports customs compliance, admissibility and operations through management and oversight of customs broker.
- Acts as primary contact for CBSA and other governmental agencies.
- Maintains HTS classification of imported items.
- Maintains records required by Canada Customs for all import/export transactions.
- Coordinates all CUSMA, CETA, and other FTA claims as well as maintains all required supporting documentation, including Certificates of Origin.
- Identifies material eligible for duty drawback and ensures the proper recovery.
- Obtains appropriate training and continuing education relating to import transactions.
- Maintains Customs Compliance Manual, consistent with government regulations, as well as company policies and procedures.
- Supports Compliance operations in the United States and Mexico as needed

Reporting to: Customs Compliance Director, North America

Competencies
- Energy to deliver results as the sole resource dedicated to Canada Trade Compliance.
- Agility to exercise judgement necessary to support business operations while maintaining compliance with legal requirements and protecting the company’s reputation.

Educational Requirements
- High school diploma required. Related college degree preferred
- CCS, CTCS or similar certification preferred

Experience and Skill Requirements
- Minimum three years of import/export compliance experience
- Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Access
- Effective verbal and written communication skills
- Attention to detail, excellent time management
- Must have compliance experience with an importer or customs broker

Language Requirements
- Fluent in English.
