**Job Summary**
**CIMT College **is looking for a dynamic instructor for its Cabinetry and Furniture program who can provide theoretical as well practical learning to the students.
**Duties and Responsibilities**:
- Demonstrate a thorough and accurate knowledge of the field
- Instruct curriculum using only pre-authorized and provided materials
- Teach students using a diverse and systematic plan of lectures, presentations, demonstrations, discussion groups, laboratory work, case studies, independent or group projects
- Administer and marks quizzes, assignments, exams and/or other assessments to monitor and evaluate students’ progress according to guidelines and procedures
- Evaluate student performance fairly and consistently and return student marks promptly
- Provide feedback on student performance
- Arrange feedback from students on the instructor, content, and facility at the end of each course
- Demonstrate sensitivity to student needs and individual circumstances in a multi-cultural environment
- Resolve student complaints and concerns with a positive and professional attitude
- Maintain attendance records accurately
- Assure that classrooms are left in a clean and orderly fashion at end of class without loss of or damage to equipment or other resources
- Provide support to the admissions team with potential students who have questions about the program or future career
- Participate in scheduled meetings and annual events like graduation
- Maintain confidentiality of student privacy and information
- Display an attitude of teamwork and problem solving
- Perform other related duties as required
**Skills Required**:
- Knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and database systems
- Excellent oral and written communication to present information in a way that students will understand as well as adapt to the different learning styles
- Interpersonal skills to act as a mentor and role model
- Online teaching (training provided, but computer skills are essential)
**Qualifications**:
- Have 48 months of work experience in the vocation/field OR
- Have 36 months of teaching experience in the vocation and 24 months of work experience in the vocation OR
- Have 24 months of work experience in the vocation AND
- Hold a Bachelor degree from a Canadian university or an equivalent degree
- Graduate of a College of Applied Arts and Technology or equivalent
- Graduate of a registered PCC or equivalent
- AEC/DEP or Skilled Trades Certificate (preferred)
**Industry Experience**:
**Woodshop Tools and Equipment** - This course introduces students to the tools, materials, and equipment which are normally found in a woodshop. Students learn about measuring and layout tools, tool safety and shop care. They also learn about different types of wood, wood warping and prevention, and wood movement. The course also includes an introduction to designing furniture.
**Joinery**:
- Students learn the pros and cons of using different joints in carpentry based on tensile strength, type of project, type of wood, available tools, and time and cost. Students learn how to make a variety of joints including Butt Joint, Mortise and Tenon Woodworking Joints, Biscuit Joint, Bridle Joint, Dado Joint, Dovetail Joint, Finger Joint, Lap Wood Joint, Pocket-Hole Joinery, Rabbet Woodworking Joints, Tongue and Groove Woodworking Joints, and Dowel Joint.
**Box and Case Construction** - This course teaches students how to build boxes and cases for furniture. Students learn how to design and build a box, shelves, and drawers for furniture. They also learn about drawer hardware, and various types of shelf joinery. The instructor does a demonstration with the students on how to build a box and case, which prepares them for their woodshop project.
**Building Doors** - This course teaches students about the various types of doors, door pulls, door hardware, latches, and how to hang a door using various types of hinges.
**Bases and Feet** - Students learn how to make various types of bases for cabinetry. They learn about scrolled and mitered feet, rollers and casters, and foot varieties. Students also watch a demonstration on how to design and build a plant stand from start to finish.
