**Gardeners**:
The Capital Stewardship Branch is looking for two Gardeners for temporary positions until March 31, 2023 and May 19, 2023 with the possibility of extension and/or indeterminate status. These positions are classified as RÉ-03 ($50,375 to $63,754 per annum)

**DETAILED JOB DESCRIPTION**
Reporting to the Senior Horticulturist, the Gardener provides a broad range of operational services for the maintenance and life cycle management, rehabilitation of the landscape, formal gardens, civil and fleet assets as well as providing operational support services for ceremonial functions, exterior horticultural and general maintenance support.

**ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS**:
**EDUCATION**: Diploma from a recognized post-secondary institution in a related field or High school diploma with an acceptable combination of specific, short-term, or practical training related to the position through apprenticeship programs, colleges, or red seal certifications.

**CERTIFICATES / LICENCES**:

- Valid driver’s licence (Quebec residents will be required to pass Class 3 for heavy vehicles).

**EXPERIENCE**: A minimum of three (3) years of experience in landscape outdoor operations as well as in extensively maintaining formal garden displays including annuals, bulbs, perennials, hedges, shrubs, vines as well as mature and fruiting trees.

**KNOWLEDGE**
- Of specific pruning and maintenance requirements of various types of roses, shrubs, trees, hedges and vines;
- Of natural plant health care techniques, including monitoring disease and pest control;
- Of innovative organic growing techniques;
- Of edging, deadheading, pruning, staking and mulching techniques;
- Of standards and guidelines related to life cycle management and rehabilitation of trees, shrubs and perennials;
- Of snow and ice control materials, best practices and equipment operation;
- Of basic safety practices.

**ABILITIES**
- To monitor plant performance and diagnose disease and other pathogens;
- To work alone or in teams with mínimal supervision and provide guidance to students and interns;
- To operate small to medium motorized horticultural machinery including string and hedge trimmers and leaf blowers;
- To perform manual labour in carrying out gardening and grounds responsibilities;
- To communicate effectively and to respond to general inquiries.

**CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT**
- Possess or eligible to obtain Secret security clearance;
- Linguistic profile: English Essential or French Essential;

**ASSETS**
- Valid Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS) certificate;
- Tractor / excavating / chipper training and certification;
- Chainsaw safety training and certification;
- First aid training;
- Forklift operator training and certification;
- Experience with ice rink maintenance and equipment operation (power edger, ice resurface, flooding);
- Experience and knowledge working in a greenhouse.
