Directional Driller

**Description**:
Working under the supervision of the Site Foreman, he / she will be part of a two-person crew that installs cable and / or duct using a Vermeer Directional Bore machine. This individual will act as the drill head Driller responsible for the operation of the machine.
He / she may also drive the main or secondary support vehicle(s) used to transport this equipment to various project sites.
**Required Experience**:

**Responsibilities**:
- Operation of drilling and bore equipment for the installation of conduit
- Interpretation of plans, diagrams, and locates
- Accurate and timely completion of work
- Adherence to Health & Safety standards
- Communicate with team members and Supervisor on preparation and project coordination
- Proficient in filling out documentation (daily work orders and tailboards)
- Book 7 understanding
- Report any project delays or issues to supervisor
- Daily safety inspection of all equipment and tools
- Observe equipment maintenance schedule and advise supervisor when repairs required
- Ability to drive the Bore truck (box truck) with a trailer
- Assist with the loading and unloading of the directional bore equipment in a manner that is secure and damage free
- May transport associated tools, materials and/or equipment in a safe manner
- May be required to complete the Drivers logbook & daily vehicle inspection (pre-trip, en-route, post-trip), maintenance and repair reports, accident, or incident reports
- May prepare or assist with the preparation of the drill fluid based on site conditions prior to boring commencing
- Trouble shoot any locate equipment issues and relay to the directional drill coordinator for technical assistance or resolution
**Qualifications**:
- Valid Ontario Class AR or AZ driver's license with a clean driver record
- Minimum 3 years’ experience on Vermeer HDD
- Ability to read and interpret Bell and Rogers drawings and Locates
- Basic knowledge of telecom and fiber optic installation
- Ability to work in extreme weather conditions (rain, snow, wind etc.)
- Mini-Excavator experience an asset
- Conduit/pipe laying an asset
- Cable pulling an asset
