**Manager - Waste Management & Transportation - Onsite**

**Location: Pinawa, Manitoba**

**Schedule: Four (4) - 10 hour shifts - Monday to Thursday**

**Job Summary**

The Waste Management and Transportation Manager is responsible for providing senior leadership and mentoring to the Waste Management (WM) Division, which is responsible for the characterization, safe packaging, transportation, and disposal of clean, radioactive and hazardous materials generated at Whiteshell (WL).

Canadian Nuclear Laboratories (CNL) employees perform all duties in accordance with established health and safety and regulations/guidelines, policies and procedures (i.e.; utilizing personal protective equipment as per safe work procedures); Notifies management or supervisor of all occurrences, injuries, illnesses or safety and health concerns which are likely to harm themselves, their co-workers or any other on the premises in a timely manner and in accordance with established reporting requirements.

**Qualifications**

**Education**
- An undergraduate degree from a university of recognized standing in a field related to Physical Sciences, Engineering or Health Physics, with an advanced degree in the same disciplines or in Management (i.e., Masters Business Administration - MBA).

**Experience**
- At least ten years of professional experience in radioactive and hazardous waste management, preferably at national laboratories and decommissioning facilities;
- Proven experience in waste storage, treatment and disposal activities;
- Engineering or scientific education and/or background, with experience in the nuclear field, and program/project management, administration and/or leadership experience;
- The incumbent must have a strong grounding in the technical and regulatory dimensions of nuclear and conventional operations and program planning;
- Provide strong leadership, support and articulate the organization's vision/mission at all levels, and have a proven ability to achieve results through others;
- Demonstrated business sense and financial knowledge to adequately plan, manage and monitor Branch budgets to meet financial objectives.

**Abilities and Skills**
- The Branch mandate requires that the Manager have a broad multidisciplinary, yet detailed understanding of the technical and operational issues associated with CNL’s Waste Management and Transportation of Dangerous Goods Programs, facilities operations and supporting nuclear programs and standards;
- A good understanding of many factors within a large organization - strategic planning, operational planning, financial management, human resources, nuclear and non-nuclear operational excellence;
- Make appropriate planning and operational decisions that take into account business needs, compliance requirements and financial constraints;
- Decisions, activities and deliverables can have a broad and major impact on the organization's activities - regulatory, stakeholders, customers, and international relationships
- Decisions will be complex by conflicting priorities, funding constraints, and the interests of various stakeholders;
- Essential to maintain strong and active, participatory interfaces with other site groups and the regulator;
- Initiative and judgement to organize and maintain flow of work and accuracy of records;
- Must be punctual, dependable and safety minded;
- Detail oriented with the ability to meet deadlines;
- Exceptional organizational skills, able to prioritize and time management is required;
- Ability to understand detailed information is essential;
- Demonstrates responsibility and is accountable for accurately handling the details associated with one’s work;
- Conscientious about accuracy;
- Ability to adapt to a changing environment and response with initiative;
- Excellent interpersonal communication skills and proven ability to maintain successful working relations at all levels within the organization and with external stakeholders; and
- Able to work extended hours and off normal work shifts to support project needs, when required.

- Providing the necessary leadership and oversight in all Branch activities to drive operational excellence in human performance and commitment management;
- Providing the necessary leadership and oversight to new activities, projects and facilities planned for the Branch, with a focus on operational excellence, technology/knowledge transfer, and strong interface management from a "demanding customer" perspective, to ensure these activities/projects/new facilities/services transition effectively and efficiently from the planning, design, construction, and commissioning stages, to safe, compliant and cost-effective operation within the Branch;
