Roger Neilson Children’s Hospice is a ten-bed, pediatric palliative care hospice on the grounds of the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario (CHEO) in Ottawa. We are currently looking for dynamic, innovative, and flexible professionals who are interested in working with our team to meet the needs of the children and families we serve.

Salary Range: $45.69 - $61.92 per hour

Manager, Roger Neilson Children’s Hospice and CHEO Palliative Care

Roger Neilson Children’s Hospice meets the unique palliative care needs of newborns, children, youth and their families. We lead by advancing clinical care and family support, and by learning through research and sharing knowledge. We enrich the quality of lives, no matter how short.

SUMMARY:
Roger Neilson Children’s Hospice (RNCH) provides pediatric palliative care services to children living with a life-limiting diagnosis and their families. RNCH additionally provides comprehensive grief support to parents and grandparents who have experienced the death of a child and to children who are grieving the death of someone significant in their lives.

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES:

- Ensure the safe, effective, and efficient daily operation of the psychosocial programs
- Facilitate care to ensure it is delivered in an integrated, family-centered, collaborative, and interdisciplinary manner
- Provide clinical and practice leadership, support, consultation, and supervision
- Identify, contribute to, and lead related quality improvement initiatives, program development opportunities, monitoring of reporting metrics, etc.
- Facilitate staffing and clinical resources wisely
- Coordinate and support case load management and triaging needs
- Offer psychotherapy to bereaved children, youth and their families in individual, couple, family and group sessions
- Chair, lead, and/or contribute to committee, project work, research, program evaluation, quality assurance work as required
- Collaborate with the Clinical Educator to promote and provide mentorship and support to the clinical team, newly hired staff, and learners
- Promote the development and integration of evidence-based standards and practice guidelines
- Maintain current knowledge on evidence-based practice by reviewing literature, consulting with clinical and community experts in the field, engaging in reflective practice and participating in professional development activities, to continuously improve care
- Support the orientation and learnings needs of the team including learners
- Participate in performance reviews with the Manager
- Work collaboratively with the RNCH Leadership Team on strategic goals and relevant issues
- Demonstrate values, attitudes, and beliefs towards working with children that reflect the RNCH Code of Conduct to Protect Children in our Care, including maintenance of professional boundaries

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS:

- Police record check for vulnerable sector
- MSW graduate from an accredited university program in Social Work or another accredited psychosocial graduate degree program
- Member of the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers and broad knowledge of Social Work theory, practice and regulations established by the College or member in good standing of the relevant regulatory college with strong knowledge of practice standards and ethics
- Minimum 5 years of experience in providing counselling services to children, youth, and their families
- Training and a minimum 2 years of experience in providing clinical supervision and consultation support
- Bilingualism preferred (oral and written in French and English)
- Training and/or experience in evidence-based approaches to working with children, youth, and/or adults experiencing symptoms of mental illness, such as Multidimensional Grief Theory (MGT), CBT, DBT, EMDR, etc.
- Training and/or experience in providing both individual and group-based interventions
- Knowledge of relevant legislation, standards and guidelines for professional practice
- Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills
- Ability to be an effective change agent
- Self-directed with advanced planning and organization skills
- Police Record Check for vulnerable sector
- Flexibility in working hours, including evenings
