Community Inclusion is a very active community based, public transit-oriented program.

The individuals within Community Inclusion are exploring their individual interests and personal goals within their neighbourhood's and communities. You will be working with the team to be consistent in all goals and activities within the community.

You are attentive and have a calming influence in noisy environments. A person who understands how to communicate well with someone who is sensitive, while still maintaining strong boundaries.

You have an understanding of body language, tone of voice as mood cues and communication, plus an understanding of augmentative communication as well as encouraging verbal and nonverbal communication.

You are a fun loving leader and mentor that gracefully teaches people in the community how to actively respect people with disabilities.

**Duties and responsibilities**:

- Staff will be with between 1 and 2 individuals and the day is in the community engaging in a variety of activities i.e. long walks, recreation i.e. swimming, assisting in volunteer experiences, leisure activities. Each day is designed by the individual that you will be supporting. It is a full day in the community using various means of public transportation. Days include looking for creative ways to assist the various individuals in their person centered planning.
- Part of the job is to get to know the community, understanding how to use translink trip planning; research possibilities in the community to match individual goals.
- To develop a relationship with the person(s) you are support in order to have an understanding of their person centered goals.
- To record daily activities and goals reached.
- Use of a cell phone and having a strong working knowledge of the internet.
- Being a liaison and an ambassador in the community representing not only the person(s) you are supporting but representing Spectrum Society for Community Living
- Outgoing, friendly energy and ability to create community connections
- Keen sense of interest in community discovery / exploration
- Sense of Humour
- Engaging with community members, individuals and team
- Consistently maintain communication with team and manager
- Resourceful
- Desire to support people expressing themselves, finding their voice and building their networks

**Preferred Training or Experience**:

- Familiarity with people who have Autism would be an asset.
- Experience reading non verbal signs as well as verbal communication is important.
- Ideally you should have skills, knowledge and ability to create goals using person centered planning and managing those goals in a community based day to day activities.
- Quick on the spot problem solving skills

**Specific Training or Experience Required**:

- Supporting People who get anxious
- Ability to motivate, encourage and engage the interests of others
- Assisting People to find employment or support them in the workplace
- Ability to work independently
- Attention to detail and a consistent and non-confrontational approach to challenging behaviours and how to set appropriate boundaries.
- Understanding of respect, optimism and innovation in the community

**Reports to **Program Manager

**Rate of Pay** CSW: $20.09/hour to $22.75/hour

**Probation **3 Months

**Driving Requirement **Driving not required

**Expected Hours of Work**:
Hours are flexible in order to meet the individual interests of the person(s) you are supporting
Hours may look like:

- Monday 10 a.m. - 4 p.m.
- Tuesday 10 a.m. - 4 p.m.
- Thursday 10 a.m. - 4 p.m.

Hours may need to be flexible due to the various factors affecting our communities at this time.

**Job Type**: Part-time
Part-time hours: 18 per week

**Salary**: $20.09-$22.75 per hour
