**Who we are**:The Operations Support Division provides a wide array of programs and services to 2 separate groups; Public Works clients and the community. It is the most diverse division in Peel, serving many different Public Works clients. Ops Support even services the community through various environmental education programs, call centres, and water billing.

**Reports to**: Supervisor, Construction Inspection

**Team Structure**: Responsible to lead a team made up of Technical Analysts, Material Data Collection Assistants, Construction Technician Coordinators and Co-op Students.

**What you will do in this role**:

- Supervise, mentor and coach team members
- Assigns, monitors work performance and completes performance appraisals on an annual basis.
- Provide final acceptance of all sewer and watermain construction
- Review and approve staff time-sheets and staff mileage claims
- Assign projects to Inspectors based on geographic forethought as they relate to new and existing active projects
- Construction Inspector’s diary (verification of proper records, annual collection, storage and tracking)
- Attend pre-construction meetings and following up with the necessary protocols (Commencement Notices, etc )
- Issue preliminary and final approvals for all Capital Works projects
- Issue construction approvals and final acceptance of development type projects
- Compile and track inspections data verification of construction reports and related extra work orders
- Tracking of constructed plans and related summary reports
- Conduct and complete quarterly site safety audits
- Work closely with other internal Public Works Teams including Site Plan Servicing and Development Engineering

**What the role requires**

**Educational Background/ Must Haves/Bonafide Job Requirements**:
- Successful completion of Civil Engineering, Road Construction degree/diploma or relevant field- Five years of progressive related construction experience; An equivalent combination of education and experience will also be considered.
- Able to interpret engineering plans and an in-depth knowledge of road construction and municipal water distribution and wastewater collection infrastructure issues and knowledge of applicable legislation, regulations and standards

**Assets**:

- C.Tech designation through the Ontario Association of Engineering Technicians and Road Construction Certificate with OACETT would be considered an asset.

**Skills/Abilities**:

- Demonstrated leadership, coaching and mentoring skills to motivate and provide guidance to staff, contractors and consultants ensuring high standards of professional service.- Effective interpersonal skills to liaise with external and internal clients and staff, co-ordinate work and resolve conflicts.- Strong organizational skills to plan and schedule work ensuring proper allocation of resources (both staff and equipment) preparation of activity reports, budget overruns and project scope changes.
Strong communication skills both verbal and written to deal with concerns and issues from councilors, residents and internal clients within the Region of Peel
- Able to interpret and evaluate information on the existing program and offer recommendations
- Strong decision making abilities and good use of judgment and industry experience to identify the best solutions
- Ontario “G” Driver's license in good standing
