Summer Camp Counsellor

Hickory Creek Summer Camp is a Day Camp Program run during the summertime for kids 4-12. At Hickory Creek, we keep the joy of learning and exploration very much alive during the Summer months (July and August).

Our camp provides an environment for young children to play various camp activities such as games, crafts, special events and field trips.

**Key Responsibilities**:

- Foster healthy child development in children attending camp.
- Daily supervision for day camp children
- Provide feedback to parents on daily basis.
- Assist with meal preparation and cleanup.
- Abide by policies and guidelines that are defined in the Staff Handbook and Hickory Creek Day Camp Policies and Procedures.
- Assist other staff in the development and implementation of daily and weekly activities and program specials.

**Qualifications**:

- A current Vulnerable Sector Check from the Regional police (within the last 3 months)
- Current CPR/ First Aid Certification is an asset
- A passion for working with children
- Strong interpersonal skills to gain trust and respect of children and their parents
- The ability to maintain confidentiality at all times
- Fluent oral and written English language communication skills;
- Skilled at working both independently and within a team context.
- Ability to handle the stress and the high mental demands of working with a high number of children.

**Additional information**:
This is a full-time summer contract position. 8 weeks in program and three days training/team building. Schedule: Monday to Friday. 6:45am to 3:45pm or 8:45 am to 5:45 pm.

Starting base rate of $20.00 per hour ($18.00 + 2.00 WEG).

Indoor and outdoor environment. Offsite Field trips weekly, including walks around the town of Welland.

All staff in childcare must have COVID vaccine, or a medical exemption, and must wear a mask and shield/googles when in program.
