**Location** - This role is hybrid with a mix of remote and in-person; on-site work will primarily take place at North Campus Edmonton.

**Working for the Department/Faculty**

The Emergency Management Program is responsible for ensuring that the University of Alberta is prepared for a major emergency. This includes coordinating our response teams, supporting supervisors, supporting students, and community engagement.

**Position**

This position supports the Director of Emergency Management (DEM) in reduction of, readiness for, response to, and recovery from incidents and emergencies that interrupt the operations of the University of Alberta regardless of location or time.

**Duties**
- Support the activation of the Integrated Emergency Management Plan and related hazard-specific plans, including the Labour Disruption Plan.
- Support the activation of the EOC by serving as deputy EOC Coordinator including responsibilities serving as EOC Coordinator in 24 hour continuous activations, including during labour disruptions.
- Evaluate alignment of the IEMP and specific plans with partners, based on knowledge of long range issues, relationships and estimation of the implications of decisions made.
- Participate in Fire Safety activities, including leading training for staff and students, checking and updating Fire Safety Plans, and providing advice based on U of A fire safety documentation.
- Support and contribute to hazard assessment initiatives and actions; recognize, understand and communicate hazards and risks.

**Minimum Qualifications**
- A minimum grade 12 diploma or equivalent is required
- Passion for emergency management is essential

**Preferred Qualifications**
- Formal studies in emergency management, or equivalent, are an asset
- Interest in and exposure to international issues is an asset
- Interest in sustainable development is an asset
- Interest in or experience in managing projects is an asset
- Ability to present ideas concisely and clearly is an asset
- Personal or professional experience with complex systems and multiple cultures is an asset
- A class 5 driver's license is an asset
- Experience with diverse command and leadership cultures and systems is an asset
- Related post-secondary education in the field would be preferred
- Combinations of education and experience will be considered
- Proficient in Google suite is an asset
- Experience in public speaking is an asset
- Excellent stress management skills are an asset
