Required Abilities, Qualifications and Experience:

- extensive academic training, professional preparation, and qualifications in teaching all areas of this assignment
- Must have Inter-Provincial Red Seal qualification for Hairstylist
- Must have recent teaching experience as a Youth Train in Trades Hairstyling Red Seal Instructor within a school district context
- Must be a BC certified teacher with a Bachelors degree in Education
- Demonstrated ability in curricular development related to hair styling and the new ITA standards for hairstyling
- Demonstrated ability to prepare high school students for the ITA examination for hairstyling
- Demonstrated ability to establish/maintain appropriate contacts with the community in planning and implementing work experience placements for hair stylist students
- Demonstrated knowledge and commitment to the philosophy of a career preparation program
- Demonstrated experience in organizing hair shows and Hair Industry events (involvement in Skills Canada an asset)
- Demonstrated ability to work as a team with school and district staff as well as the ITA and community members
- Demonstrated experience and commitment to working with at-risk students in a hairstyling program
- Demonstrated commitment to and engagement in ongoing professional and personal learning for hairstyling
- knowledge of, and willingness to practice, all elements of the new reporting order, specifically utilizing proficiency scales and descriptive feedback for assessing and communicating student progress and learning
- demonstrated ability to motivate and provide success for students who experience difficulties with learning and require additional support through student services
