Compensation Range

$6,068.92 - $8,724.25 CAD Monthly

The Compensation Range is the span between the minimum and maximum base salary for a position. The midpoint of the range is approximately halfway between the minimum and the maximum and represents an employee that possesses full job knowledge, qualifications and experience for the position. In the normal course, employees will be hired, transferred or promoted between the minimum and midpoint of the salary range for a job.

Job Summary

Organizational Status

Works collaboratively with members of the FBIC team, LFS Research facilitation team and SPARC team to identify research-funding opportunities, including international opportunities and industry partnerships. Works closely with LFS technical staff, graduate/undergraduate students and other outside professionals/consultants. Engages with researchers from diverse disciplines, including food science, materials engineering, pharmacy & pharmacology, and biochemistry, collaboratively to integrate insights and perspectives from these academic disciplines to advance the field of food and bioactive delivery formulation. Works with collaborators in other Faculty’s such as Dentistry and may be involved in the Packaging Innovation Research Cluster being established to coordinate packaging research at UBC.

Work Performed- Oversees research activities, managing aspects such as research design, execution, data collection, and analysis, as well as integrated knowledge translation. Develops workplans and timelines, directing resources, leading team meetings, engaging with industry, and collaborating on research projects with other faculty, centers, and institutes.
- Responsible for developing a network of expertise in material sciences, packaging, pharmaceutical sciences, and food technology. Duties include designing innovative packaging and bioactive delivery systems, assessing biological activity, toxicity, and drug delivery formations, incorporating food-based matrices and investigating the compatibility of bioactive compounds with various food ingredients to ensure stability, food safety, and effectiveness.
- Conducts comprehensive literature reviews to identify gaps in current packaging and bioactive delivery technologies, emerging trends, and relevant research studies to inform the work and research directions.
- Performs comprehensive analyses of formulated products, including particle size distribution, rheological properties, encapsulation efficiency, and surface morphology. Applies advanced techniques to gain insights into the structural aspects of the formulated systems.
- Provides strategic and editorial feedback on grant and award proposals, advises faculty on the review processes and funding requirements, provides advice to faculty and associated teams with the aim of improving the competitiveness of funding proposals by identifying research synergies, grant opportunities, matching funding, and developing proposals for large-complex competitions.
- Interprets research finding results to draw meaningful, accurate conclusions and identifies trends, providing a scientific basis for decision-making and further research directions.
- Prepares drafts of research manuscripts required for publication in reputable peer-reviewed journals. Contributes to the dissemination of knowledge within the academic and scientific communities.
- Advises graduate and undergraduate students involved in research projects, fostering a positive learning environment by sharing expertise, overseeing work, and facilitating their growth as researchers.
- Stays updated with the latest advancements in packaging, bioactive delivery, formulation technologies, and related fields by participating in professional development activities, workshops, and training programs.
- Contributes to public outreach activities to increase awareness of the research conducted in bioactive delivery and its potential impact on health and well-being.
